The doctor is definitely preparing me for the worst case scenario and I TOTALLY understand why he's doing that. In my heart, I too am worried that this won't turn out to be a healthy pregnancy. However, he is always so negative and won't express ANY hope for this turning out well. Talking about a possible future D&C and miscarriage without even exploring the possibility of a happy ending just rubs me the wrong way. I'd rather he express his concerns and say let's take this week by week then be so negative - KWIM?
I'm so sorry that you are going through this and are not happy with your Dr. Unfortunately, I am going through the very same thing. Many here know I LOVE my Dr. and I feel that he is one of the most compassionate Dr.'s I've ever met...but sadly..he has not been very positive either. I was kind of hurt...especially in light of how unconcerned my peri has been. My Dr basically told me that he did not want me to become too attached and after thinking about it...I know that he is right. Unfortunately, in the end, I think it will be my Dr that was the one that was correct..although I wish like hell that he were wrong!! I think much depends upon what the actual HB was and just how far behind you are measuring. The truth is..there is lots that he may not be telling you which may indicate a problem. In your Dr.'s defense, it would not be fair to not prepare you for the worse and to allow you to think all is well just because you saw a HB..no matter how low it was and no matter how far you are measuring behind. I do however believe in getting a second opinion in matters of this importance and I hope that your OB is kinder and puts your mind at ease. I hope it all works out for you.

I do understand. This is a really hard thing to have to go through. I just also think that if he, as the professional, is seeing indicators that it won't work, it would almost be cruel to give you even that glimmer of hope. I think he just might not want you to get attached, like classc1 said. He has a hard job and I think he approaches these situations to tell you what he expects- now sometimes doctors are wrong - we all know that and I certainly hope in your case and classc1's they are wrong. But wouldn't you rather be pleasantly surprised than crushed later?
I just don't think he is a jerk, I think he might just be hedging the situation the best way he can. But I hope this works out for you and that you find a doctor you are comfortable with. Good luck

I've never heard of a dr. being so negative. Please let us know how it goes with the OB.

The only thing I can offer you is what I offered you before: With my successful pregnancy, my betas never doubled exactly and they were slow. Also DS always measured small and my due date was actually adjusted to reflect a week later than it should have been.

So sorry I hope the numbers start to look up soon. I've been there with the dragged out m/c and I know how consuming the worry can be. Hopefully it's just a pregnancy that's slow to burn
