Toddler Sleep Issues
DS is about 26 months old. For past 2 months he cries at every nap and at bedtime for no less than 10 minutes. Prior to 2 months ago he went down without a peep after just a couple days of CIO sleep training at 9 months old. What gives? Anybody else have a toddler that cries at nap and bedtime? What is the solution to him not crying when he is a kid who will NOT go to sleep unless in his own bed....he wont even sleep during long car rides. Once he cries himself to sleep he sleeps really well and usually wakes up happy. Help would be much appreciated but PLEASE no flames for us using CIO method....

Toddler Sleep Issues
DD is the same way about only sleeping in her crib. If she naps in the car, any little thing can wake her up and then she will not go back to sleep. Won't nap in my bed, on the couch, the stroller, etc. So I would probably do exactly what you're doing and let her cry. Every now and then (especially when the slightest thing is off in her routine) she'll cry when I put her down. I usually let her go about 15-20 minutes bc if i pick her up that's it, she won't nap at all that day and she'll be miserable.
Do you have a good routine to help him settle down beforehand? When DD is wound up at nap time I sit on the floor and read a book or two with the lights low and the white noise on to help her relax. I'm more strict about her bedtime routine and make sure we do the same thing every night and since we did CIO at 16 months she rarely makes a peep all night.

Nothing has ever changed with his rougine AT ALL. Thats why I am so baffled. We always have a cool down period before sleep time. I just dont know what to do.and HATE the crying but he wont go to sleep anywhere or any way else. I hate it for him and for me....

Re: Toddler Sleep Issues
I could have written this post. DD will be 2 this weekend. She has been STTN (at least 12 hours) since about 3-4 months. Very very rarely woke at night and went to bed easily. However, she has never been a good sleeper out of the house. Might nap in the car for a short time or in the stroller if it is moving. Going away is a nightmare bc she will not fall asleep on her own.
Anyway, almost out of nowhere the last 2 weeks she started screaming "mommy where are you" and "help" after we put her down and then would wake during the night doing the same. The first week we went up there and stayed a while bc this is not normal for her, only when sick. We rubbed her back and stayed a while. But after a week it was still happening and she is def. not sick. After doing some research and talking to dr. we decided it was bc she wanted our attention. Just a little less than a week ago we stopped going up and let her CIO. We would talk to her on the monitor and let her know we were there. She would eventually fall asleep. Last night she went down easily (cried for less than 2 min) and slept through with no waking. Praying this is almost over.
