To anyone who use(d) progesterone suppositories!
My progesterone came back on the low side: 10.2. So my OB has me taking suppositories twice daily. I started them today. Can anyone give me the inside scoop about them? Side effects? Problems with inserting them? I feel like they are not going up there far enough! What about discharge...you all wear a pantyliner right? And most importantly- how long are people usually on them for? Any info to help this suppository rookie would be fantastic!!

Yes I used them my first pregnancy and requested them again for this pregnancy. They are refrigerated but after they get to be body temperature they get mushy and leaky So invest in a few boxes of liners. As far as application they do come with an applicator but I found it easier with my finger-- TMI sorry. Usually you are only on them for your first trimester. Good Luck FM me if youhave any more questions.

I was on them until I was 12 weeks... your are most likely gonna get a little bloated and have discharge... But those are the only side effects I had..
Mine werent refrigerated. But you should still invest in panty liners.. your gonna need them :(

Thanks for the tips girls! Mine are refrigerated also but they do not come with an applicator... and I have short fingers! Ah, well... I can only do the best I can!!
Another question... why do we need to increase our progesterone? What part of development does this hormone control?

Progesterone decreases the immune system as to not reject pregnancy, it helps keep the emryo implanted by keeping the lining thick and stops the uterus from contracting.

I was on progesterone suppositories also. I had an applicator but I found it more effective to do it with my finger also.
I was on them for 10 weeks.

Re: To anyone who use(d) progesterone suppositories!
I was on them for weeks, I believe I stopped after after my 10th week or so. I used my finger & I understandf what you're saying, but it will be fine. There is alot of discharge/leaking, I wore pantyliners for weeks and hated it. So gross. I actually had a lot of burning & itching but it went away after a while. It was worth it because it did it's job, I'm due in a few weeks Good luck!

Re: To anyone who use(d) progesterone suppositories!
I was on them from week from 5 of my pregnancy until just today when I took my last dose at 12 weeks. I didn't have any real side effects other than maybe a slight increase in exhaustion. You get use to using them.......as far as insertion my pharmacist gave me an applicator with my prescription. It was like using a tampon, it made it much easier and I head a little less leakage that way.

Re: To anyone who use(d) progesterone suppositories!
i was on them for 12 weeks. used the applicator- like a tampon. they were in the fridge. sometimes the pad or liner felt really uncomfortable. not sure why but it did. so sometimes i wouldnt wear it. not really a good idea as they leak and get messy. always used them at night. no side effects. Pogerstrone can help with implantation. i was on them and the dr said the baby wasnt going to make it. and to stop with the pogesterone. i did and the baby passed. it would have happend no matter what i did but i think the pogesterone kept the pregnancy a little longer than it would have. fast forward 3 weeks. im pg again and again on pogesterone. this is when i was on for the full 12 weeks. all is well. now im entering my 3rd trimester with twins. =)
