Our company doesn't pay anyone, the purchaser does. I work for a law firm.

So then your atty has his clients tip very well.

Are you putting the attendance fee on the HUD? I guess that this is how he does it?

I don't type HUD's only closing statements to send to our client from our office after their closing.

The buyer's aren't tipping, it's the title closer's fee. The buyer doesn't have a "choice" in what they want to pay. A choice would be a tip.

As a closer, I WISH more atty swere like the one you work for.

I close in Orange, Rockland, Westchesrer and five boroughs and Nassau. North of the bridges (Rockland, orange, westchester) it is a whole other animal...we cannot put ANY fee on the title bill and we cannot ask for a tip...only the atty and thier client decide based on if they value the work I do at closing. If there is no mortgage to pay off or the purchaser does not tip I make $40 from the title company for 2-3 hour s of work...plus my fed -ex charges come out of my own pocket so I am breaking even if I do not get tipped or if there is no mortgage pay off.

That is why I travel to the city and Nassau...they tip for the most part.

Re: tipping at closing?

Honestly I don't even think our attorney's have a say in the matter. Trust me, they are very cheap minded where I work and would never have the clients pay fees they didn't *have* to.

We don't do much RE anymore since there is ALWAYS a problem and it's not worth the money or the hassle.
