we paid about $13k in closing costs back in august...

You can only write off certain stuff on your closing costs. Like your points paid and mortgage interest.
Thats about it. You can't write off any bank fees. You can't write off your title fees.

Give your accountant your HUD-1 or your Settlement Page from your closing and he will know what you can write off and what you cant.

Agreed. Only pre-paid interest, tax and any points can be written-off. It's all on your HUD statement received at closing.

Not to sound completely ignorant but what does that look like? I have everything filed nicely but don't know WHAT I am looking for! 
I found the closing statement but on the financial statement page, it includes maintenance, per diem interest for delayed possession, and other misc. things, but nothing that seems likeit could make a difference.

We brought our paperwork to the accountant. It says Closing Fees on the top and it had a breakdown of who got what. It actually had photo copies of each check written the day of closing also.
Seller
Lawyer
Bank lady
etc.
etc.
etc.
