Tiger Woods has just released the following statement on his website:

Tiger Woods has just released the following statement on his website:

"I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart. I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves. I am not without faults and I am far short of perfect. I am dealing with my behavior and personal failings behind closed doors with my family. Those feelings should be shared by us alone.

Although I am a well-known person and have made my career as a professional athlete, I have been dismayed to realize the full extent of what tabloid scrutiny really means. For the last week, my family and I have been hounded to expose intimate details of our personal lives. The stories in particular that physical violence played any role in the car accident were utterly false and malicious. Elin has always done more to support our family and shown more grace than anyone could possibly expect.

But no matter how intense curiosity about public figures can be, there is an important and deep principle at stake which is the right to some simple, human measure of privacy. I realize there are some who don't share my view on that. But for me, the virtue of privacy is one that must be protected in matters that are intimate and within one's own family. Personal sins should not require press releases and problems within a family shouldn't have to mean public confessions.

Whatever regrets I have about letting my family down have been shared with and felt by us alone. I have given this a lot of reflection and thought and I believe that there is a point at which I must stick to that principle even though it's difficult.

I will strive to be a better person and the husband and father that my family deserves. For all of those who have supported me over the years, I offer my profound apology."

That is a VERY well crafted release, and I wish him and his family well.
Cheating disgusts me but I've always had a soft spot for Tiger, I hope they can move on from this.

Having been cheated on by my ex-husband, this story gave me chills. I cannot help but feel for the pain his poor wife is experiencing right now. I do hope that he somehow makes this up to her as he does seem apologetic. The poor wife and children.

It's a shame he didn't consider the importance of his fidelity as much as he is asking for everyone to consider the "important and deep principle at stake which is the right to some simple, human measure of privacy".

I give him a lot of credit for still trying to keep this in his family. I still think he's a good person...who made some bad choices. I hope he and his family can work through this.
Heck - if my grandmother hadn't cheated, my father wouldn't be here!

Re: Tiger Woods has just released the following statement on his website:

NOW I believe there's more to it. I know people apply their personal experiences to this kind of thing and want revenge for the victim but these statements really stand out for me:

"Personal sins should not require press releases and problems within a family shouldn't have to mean public confessions." Exactly. The sense of entitlement we have is amazing to me sometimes.

Curiosity is one thing. Hounding someone's family like this is disgusting.

Go Tiger. he is ONE MILLION PERCENT right.

it doesn't matter what he did or didn't do.

I am not privy to, entitled to, or supposed to know about it b/c he swings a golf club for a living.

I agree. They pushed and pushed till he couldn't hide or deny anymore.

ETS: Now that the media got what they wanted, hopefully they will back off this story now.

I agree. And it's not my business if she stays with him or not.
It's their marriage...their choice.

That's exactly what I said to my husband. And it disgusts me that there are so many people that care what celebrities do in their personal lives!

My heart mostly goes out to her....I can't imagine the pain and embarassment she is feeling, and then having to face all of this in a glaring spotlight.

Its sad to see this kind of thing happen to families.Chat Icon Chat Icon

I dont feel sorry for him or his "lack of privacy" at all. When you're in the public eye and making 1 billion dollars (yes he's a billionaire) then this "lack of privacy" is part of that lifestyle and he shouldnt have been so stupid as to think his indiscretions wouldn't come to light. The only people I feel sorry for are his wife and kids. They dont deserve this. I dont give a dam about him & his pity party over his lack of privacy Chat Icon

But aren't Elin & the kids the ones being hurt the most by the intrusion of the media?

yes you know what ....you're absolutely right!! But the way I see it - this is HIS doing. He should have thought about his wife and kids and the media frenzy this would cause before his little escapades. He had to have KNOWN this would happen if his affairs became public. He deserves this....his children and wife do not. But I do see what see you're saying about how the media curcus will hurt his family as well. But again - all something he should have thought about FIRST. This is HIS doing.

See I kind of agree with this. He's paid millions in endorsement deals BECAUSE the public is so interested in what he does. He's not earning that money because the work he does for those companies is so hard... he's earning it for his name and status. So to me, when you accept that, you need to accept that you've stopped being an average joe with a truly private life (who in many cases probably works a lot harder and makes a lot less money). It's kind of a trade off.

This is not saying I don't feel for his family because I do. But I guess when you marry a celebrity and enjoy the privileges that their money and fame affords, being in the public eye goes with the territory. HE did this to them, not the media.

Yes, whatever he did, was his doing ... and if the supposed cause of the accident are correct, she'd found something out - so she is already hurt by it. So trying to keep his transgressions out of the media frenzy from the get-go and asking for privacy I'd like to believe was as much about saving her further pain and embarassment as it was to save his reputation ... but I could just be giving him way too much credit.

It's not that I feel sorry him. I just don't think it needs to be the 1st story on the evening news for the last few days.
I mean come on..they are talking about this more than the presidents speech last night.

Re: Tiger Woods has just released the following statement on his website:

All the media did is exposed him that he had an affair. And not only that but now EVERYBODY knows.

I am sure SHE is so thankful for the media. Really!

Was it bad as a husband? yes. And maybe she should divorce him. But that's not up to us to tell them that or to anyone else as a matter of fact.

Maybe she knew about it and they needed to deal with it as a couple. Or not deal with it and her leaving him.

But that's completely UNFAIR to say that because someone is in the public eye that we should know about their marital issues. That is basic decency!

He is right. It is no one's business. IMO publicizing it more would only hurt his innocent wife and children more than they hurt already.
