I just went through a pat down. I pregnant so couldn't go through the scanner. What they did was exactly the same to me. The thing he didn't video was the initial part where the tsa tells you exactly what and how they will do it plus where they will touch. I was felt up everywhere. She pushed my boobs and asked about the underwire, my waist line my legs just about my crotch. She did ask if I wanted to do it in private. I didn't see anything wrong with went on. It took a good 2 mins for me too.

Chat Icon I've been through several and they were nothing like this!!

She told what she was going to do, she used the back of her hand to feel around my bra, swiped my arms, etc. it happens leaving NY and leaving Tampa in November.

I got the same. She explained everything before she did it. It was fine. I expected nothing less.

Thoughts on this story? TSA searches and questions 10 year old over an hour.

Ugh in a sense, I get it. In the sad, sick world we live in you can't even trust an innocent child. As the parent, I dont think the pat down would bother me as much as 1 hour of questioning. That seems incessant. When my kids are lying I can generally sort that out in under 2 minutes questioning max. I want to feel safe while flying of course, but I'm flying with a 10 year old next weekend. The thought of this makes me feel ill. My poor daughter would be terrified!

I've never been pulled for the pat down but I have a friend I've flown with 3 times in the past 3 years. In 2 of those trips, she was pulled for a pat down & questioned on the 3rd. Once she had an tissue in her pocket & despite clearing the xray, they saw the lump & pulled her. It was over within a minute & i heard them telling her each step before they did it. It was nowhere near as invasive as previous posters described Chat Icon . The 2nd pat down there was no indication why she was chosen (couldn't be racial). The last time, I had just gotten my passport & didn't realize I hadn't signed it. TSA (flew domestic for international cruise) agent informed me it wasn't signed. I offered to get off the line, sign in & get back on. He laughed & said there was no need & to go on through & just remember to sign it before the trip home. My friend was right behind me. She was questioned (addresss, DOB, reason for flying- the whole nine. Her passport was older, signed & had several stamps! I've never witnessed anyone else be pulled. It seems so random that I cant decide if i feel safer or less secure! This was 3 different airports- LGA, FLL, JFK.

Maybe i'm the only one - but I don't see the big deal - things happen, the TSA were being safe.

I just feel they are being really whiny and complainy about this. If it happened with us, i know I would be complaining at the airport, but no way would DH ever want to take it to the news like this guy did.

What do they want out of it?

Is it money? Cuz I'm guessing it's money.

This is a stupid story.

I totally agree. And I have a four year old and if her juice tested positive for explosives I would expect the TSA to do their jobs. We live in a different world today. Terrorist use children to carry bombs all the time. Very sad but true. This story is so stupid and the media needs to focus on other things.

I have a neuro stimulator so I can't go through xray machines. I wouldn't go through the full body scans when pregnant. I have been pat down SOOOO many times and this is how I've always had the experience. They tell me what they are about to do, offer a room, and pat me down. I appreciate the thoroughness rather than speeding through it. I find it more annoying waiting for a TSA agent that is available HAHA!

I know I'm protective of my child and I'm sure I would become aggravated that they would question him for a long period of time but as someone said, terrorists don't think twice about using children. Sad but it's the truth.

This is the new world that we live in. I find nothing wrong with the 2 min pat down.

The 1 hr questioning would be excessive if juice box did not test positive for explosives. I would hope that the TSA would stop a person if something in their possession tested positive for explosives.

While I agree that the TSA is a sh!tshow that needs a HUGE overhaul of it's training and procedures, in this case they actually did a bang up job.

Could you imagine the uproar if this dad was using his daughter to commit an act of terrorism? And they hadn't been stopped? Say, if it had been a true positive test and the TSA had just waived them on thinking "no way, it's a 10 yr old girl, has to be a false positive."

For these agents, it's always better to be safe than sorry.

I read these stories every day - daughter was pat down and interviewed for an hour, son is on a no-fly list because he has the same name as an actual terrorist, and the parents are outraged - but the fact is that there are some people, walking around among us every damn day, who would readily commit an act of terrorism because they truly believe that it's the right thing to do. Extremism is a HUGE problem, it's not a new problem, it's just on the front page every day now. So TSA and Customs are taught how to deal with it, and how to make everyone safer, but you get one entitled a$$hole like this dad, and everyone and their mother has something to say about it.

I wish it wasn't the case, but sadly it's the world we live in and if something, anything can prevent something ,I'm all for it.
(And willing to put up with whatever i have to in the process.)

And bottom line- you are not supposed to have any liquids in more than a certain amount when you go throught secruity.
This is not a new rule.
People act like they are shocked when they are asked to throw out their juice boxes, water bottles, etc.
Come on

Yup I agree with all of this.

More specifically I am stopped each and every time I fly alone. No matter what airport I fly out of, no matter what time of day or time of year. If I fly alone, I am stopped. They call it random, but I am seriously beginning to question the 'randomness' of that. I have seen whole families with outdated incorrect passports in front of me. No English, liquids, refuse to remove shoes, breaking all the rules, but *I* and the one they pull aside for 'random' checking. I just smile and put my hands out, take off my backpack, put it aside for swabbing and step aside.

They generally realize I'm a pro at the pat down and swabbing. Some act stiff about it. Others catch on quick and look embarrassed. I guess you're looking for pale dark haired, casually dressed, no makeup single travelers with backpacks? Cause I'm your lady. I don't mind.

I never pack or keep perfumes of any type near my bags, I never keep liquids or creams on me. I never wear anything that will set off a metal detector (including anything in my hair). I always wear comfy loose shirt, jeans and a sweater. I remove all. I wear slip off easily shoes that don't require tying. I never wear necklaces, bracelets or watches. Just my wedding band. I NEVER bring a drink of any type. If I bring a snack it's ALWAYS pretzels in a clear zip lock snack size bag kept on top. double bagged into a quart zip lock with a napkin. I always get there early and I plan on being stopped. Just part of what's gonna happen.

I keep my ID and ticket in my back pocket. I never need to go into my purse. I empty my purse (or carry a travel purse).

Those who don't travel often slow things up. Those who choose to be surprised and grab headlines for stuff like this I sort of wonder about.

Good for TSA! Shame on this father for making this out to be that TSA failed in some way, while it was a false positive, her juice tested positive, so they should follow protocol.

Would I be upset that my kid was questioned for an hour? You bet, bc I would imagine they would be scared, and then I would need to explain why this happened, in some type of fashion since they would know it's not usually done when we fly. But at the end of the day, they are doing there job and it's to protect us, so I don't understand the outrage.

When I was coming home from Florida in May, my 1 yr old was sleeping in my arms, I then had to be patted down and my hands were tested for explosives. I was just happy they didn't make me wake her Chat Icon

Sadly, we live in a world where such procedures are necessary.

Perhaps they thought the child was being used as a distraction. Maybe they thought it was possible that a terrorist would use a child to sneak a weapon onto a plane. Or maybe they were just following protocol.

This level of security is needed.

Flying is a privilege, not a right. These are the rules, and if you don't like the rules regarding screening, then get in a car and drive.

I see nothing wrong, outside of the dad being a whiny b!tch.
