Thoughts on this re: Steve Bannon
This is a lengthy, but worthwhile analysis of Steven Bannon. I came across it while researching allegations that he agreed with the idea of limiting African Americans' right to vote. I could not believe it, but here it is addressed in the NYT article:
Ms. Jones, the film colleague, said that in their years working together, Mr. Bannon occasionally talked about the genetic superiority of some people and once mused about the desirability of limiting the vote to property owners.
“I said, ‘That would exclude a lot of African-Americans,’” Ms. Jones recalled. “He said, ‘Maybe that’s not such a bad thing.’ I said, ‘But what about Wendy?’” referring to Mr. Bannon’s executive assistant. “He said, ‘She’s different. She’s family.’”

This is who he is. We all know it, and no matter what Trump says, he knows it to. My thoughts remain the same. He does not belong in the White House.

I just read the full article. I think that by taking those quotes as the only thing you are referencing is kind of strange. Everything else in the article seems to go against those quotes. And frankly I would never believe one single source in remembering what someone said accurately. Especially a conversation that took place years ago.

Because I think it's bullsh!t. Why.. here's why. Because to believe this you would have to believe the author, yes?
So for me to believe the author, I would have to believe in her character. Her own words were “I said, ‘That would exclude a lot of African-Americans,’” Ms. Jones recalled. So that means to me that she is racist. Why would anyone think that African-Americans would be excluded for property ownership? Not just excluded but as in her first thought as if that’s a fact? Enough to be a factor in voting. Not just some but a “LOT” of.
So you want me to believe a racist calling out another person?
I won’t say he is or isn’t. Nor do I think he’s innocent of implying these things at other times or whatever. I wasn’t there. But her choice of words for recollection (as shown here) makes me not want to read a single word more. And not want to believe a single thing.
Those were HER words.
That’s how SHE chose to recall them.

I think where there is smoke, there is fire.
I read the article. I do think he seems to have some views I can get on board with, like the kids of 'elites' not attending service academies and going off to war that 'elites' vote for.
But I will never find him an appropriate choice. Sure, it's easy to say a few people misheard or misinterpreted comments. But he is on record making comments about Breitbart being the 'platform for the alt right' and there is nothing admirable or good about that connection.

Wait.. but we say that about a Clinton and it's a stretch or reaching? or just media? Hilary had all but a damned smoke bomb factory of a campaign but it was ok. But this woman who is obviously bias says a bias thing about someone who's already got enough steam coming off of him he needs no more smoke to start his own personal sauna and it's "Well smoke and fire?"

I totally agree with you! Also the source being The New York Times which smeared Trump for the entire campaign, cried how they were out of touch and would do better after he won, but went right back to being out of touch again, makes me also call bull on this "story" , too.

The thing is every source you find is going to be bias especially at this point in time. If they say something negative about Trump or his cabinet they are "liars and liberal". If they agree with Trump and his people they also have an agenda. We have to make our own judgement calls by getting as much information we can.

Is it racist or statistically proven?
Home-Ownership in the United States
Even if we want to assume that he likes the idea of limiting voting (which - HI, HOW IS ANYONE NOT OUTRAGED BY THIS IN AND OF ITSELF??) by property ownership, that's still a belief that should not be held by anyone in our goverment which is supposed to be FOR the people.
But this is how we're taking our news now, apparently. If it doesn't totally support what we already believe we won't even read it.

Um, no not at all.
Like the pp said. Rates of home ownership are lowest in the AA community. Highest in whites. He said that himself first- voting should be based on property ownership. He was not lead or baited into that. What a god awful, backward, economically and racially biased idea.
More than ever, I think Bannon is a dangerous vile, despicable person. What I took away was he is a master manipulator using Trump who is stupid and clueless to further his own agenda.
Frankly, I'm shocked anyone here could defend this POS.

No, I think when articles are posted in Huff Po, NYT or stories are put out on CNN and time and time again are exposed for half truths and their spin, I think you get a little tired of continuing to read it. ( Which before I get flamed, I've watched and read over and over again to see their side. CNN on election night was particularly interesting to say the least , but I digress..)
I could also post links from Breitbart and comments from other people saying he isn't anti semetic or a racist , including Alan Dershowitz, but would you read those? I'm sorry, I don't believe even half of anything the NYT states anymore. This to me is a total reach. Just like, how interesting is it that now that the election is over, all of Gloria Allred's clients have suddenly stopped coming forward on a daily basis? So now that he's won, they will just bash all of his picks.

It is absolutely terrifying how people refuse to take in anything negative about Trump's camp.

Just curious. Who was the last appointee in history that had conflicting accounts out about whether he was a neo-nazi or member of another hate group? From either party?
When was the last time we had to look at quotes from appointees and ask if they were taken out of context or if the speaker really meant them because they could be read as overtly racist/sexist/anti-semetic?
Would we be ok with an appointee who had similar quotes and conflicting reports, only instead of being allegedly antisemetic or racist, he was allegedly/potentially anti-American/traitorous? If you looked at affiliations, quotes, accounts, etc.?
Are we comfortable with a different margin of error here, and if we are, what does that say about us?

I don't think their are any really reliable news sources left like there were when I was born. Nothing like the Woodward and Bernstein days. That's sad and scary to me. I've seen it first hand with my own involvement in local goverment and causes and how a local newspaper has their political favorites and despite seeing things with my own eyes at town meetings, I see the "story" that was put out about the same meeting and their spin on things which will never blemish those people. In other words, they don't tell the full story which is as bad as lying.. Also, you can go on various websites to see campaign contributions by news parent companies to those same political figures and it tells you something.
I normally end up researching everything on various news sites along with watching all the news channels ,including the huff Po, NYT and CNN, everyone has a spin on something but I figure the truth is somewhere in the middle. I don't take what the msm feeds me as "news" just because they say so. Today, I'm just not wasting time reading this because I don't think the source or NYT doesn't have an agenda. I also try to distinguish what's an actual report and what's an op/ed piece or more an opinion. That's usually what I see with NYT, though. From all the info I've read through and watched time and time again I can tell you that reliable news is not NYT,(they practically admitted it with their apology), Huff Po (which even in yesterday's posted "story" about Sessions refused to post the full paragraph of the meeting taking it out of context and they do that time and time again) or CNN, who helped Donna Brazile cheat though they "claim" they didn't and kept the election results in Hillary's favor for hours election night, almost as she was conceding, even while all the other news channels were saying Trump was ahead by miles.

But just out of curiosity, are you certain he said this? How can you trust the source 100%? Everyone else quoted in the article said things to the contrary.

No, I think when articles are posted in Huff Po, NYT or stories are put out on CNN and time and time again are exposed for half truths and their spin, I think you get a little tired of continuing to read it. I only posted about Breitbart, because I feel like the opposite of Breitbart is Huff Po. and people are posting stories left and right on here from there, as if they are a legitimate source.
I also said I could post comments from other people including Alan Dershowitz which you didn't acknowledge because you went on your tirade because you couldn't see past the Breitbart comment, though misunderstood my point. . I don't need to be right. So sorry to burst your bubble but Breitbart is NOT where I get my news.
