Re: Those who swaddled and then stopped - Please Please Please help!!
We decided to stop swaddling when Ryan was breaking out constantly to suck his hands.
We tried cold turkey, and he kept waking himself up. So, we did one arm out for a week. Then ditched it completely.
Ryan has never slept through the night except 3 times in a row months ago. So, I can't say stopping the swaddle affected that.
For a while we were still using the sleep sack. But that got old too.

Re: Those who swaddled and then stopped - Please Please Please help!!
We swaddled DS with a receiving blanket for 7 months with no development issues, he was walking by 11 months and is either ahead or right in line with his milestones.
Dont have any suggestions as DS was ready so unswaddling was no issue!
Good Luck~

When we made the switch DD did sleep as normal - BUT she flopped around like a dying fish for about 2 weeks so I have no idea how she managed to stay asleep. It may just take some time for your DC to get used to sleeping without the swaddle. I know it is rough when they don't sleep - try to hang in there.

Re: Those who swaddled and then stopped - Please Please Please help!!
we just stopped using the swaddleme for the last 5 days now.....kaylie is 4mos and we have been keeping it loose so she could get out of it for maybe a month now....she would get her right arm out everytime......at first it bothered her but then she kept doing it and i guess she got used to having her arm out....then i started keeping that arm out......then both arms......and then i took it away i took it away during the naps and then by the night she was fine with it....shes in a halo sleepsack and shes sleeping like she never was in a swaddleme

I dont think it hinders development. DS hit all of his milestones early (walked at 9 month, sat up at 5 months, cruised at 6 months)and I swaddled him until he was lke 5.5 months. You can still keep swaddling your DC if you want to.
However, if you dont want to I would say swaddle very tightly the bottom half leaving the arms out. That is exactly what I did and DS transitioned fine.

I could have written this exact post months ago....
We gradually "unswaddled" my daughter. The first night we took one arm out, 3 nights later the other, etc. Yes she woke up a lot but that soon disappeared.
GOOD LUCK!

We gradually weaned DD off of the swaddle. Firsst we swaddled just from the waist down and left her arms out. After a couple of days, we didn't swaddle her at all. Your child will get used to the idea of not being swaddled after a couple of days (we started this on a friday night when we knew we didn't have to get up for work the next day)

Re: Those who swaddled and then stopped - Please Please Please help!!
Thanks for all the replies! It is great to read about how everyone handled this and it has given me some great insight into this. We left one arm out last night and he only woke up once - but I just gave him the pacifier and he was back to sleep immediately. Tonight we are going to try leaving the one arm out again and do this until later in the week and then try the sleep sac again. Fingers crossed, hoping he'll be in a sleep sack with no sleep issues shortly.
