DD is 6.5 mos and has no teeth...what would be the best way for me to give her some avocado? Do I have to puree it? If so she'll never try it - that's too much work for me.
Gerber fan here too...wish they made it! We do not make our own baby food at home. That thought is mind boggling to me.

Just mash it with a fork. A ripe avocado is really soft. It's a really easy food to feed fresh! I always mashed up a whole avocado and offered my kids as much as they wanted. They pushed the spoon away when they were full. Once they were used to the taste, I gave them guacamole. They loved it...lime juice and all!

i know friends tell me that all the time but I am new mom here so I am nervous about giving her anything to really chew just yet...I'm sure with a 2nd child I'll be giving things earlier...I'm still getting used to solids the thought of giving her something chewable is scary to me. I had a nephew who gagged and choked a lot as a baby...so I think I am extra cautious b/c of him.

I can't even imagine giving my DD avocado.
It's just not something I would ever think of giving to a baby.
Maybe because I have never eaten one.
It's kind of gross to me.
I can't imagine her liking something like that.

I'm ont a huge avocado fan..meanwhile it was one of DD's first foods, bc it's easy to mash and she loooved it..it's soooo good for them!!!

When she eats some I usually give her 1/4 of a small or medium one mixed with eggs, or on a turkey sandwhich!!

DD eats lots of food and has no teeth, if you mash it is fine. To answer the OP I give DD a half an avacado. If it is ripe enough I sometimes just scoop it right out of the skin and she eat it....it's mush!

This was one of DS' first foods...at 15 months I just slice it and squeeze a bit of lime juice on it (yes, DS LOVES limes). He has been known however to eat the WHOLE avacado (and not save any for mommy)Chat Icon Chat Icon
