i went to the diner the other day with DH and the waitress looked at me and said "congratulations! IT's a boy, right?" ( first of all, why would she even assume that) and I said, "no it's actually a girl." She says "WELL MAYBE NEXT TIME." ***????????? That was so rude

I hate it when people assume gender based on the way you look. It's so freaking annoying and dumb

Re: THINGS TO NEVER SAY TO A PREGNANT WOMAN

- WHAT, ARE YOU PREGNANT!?

I've got that one twice at two separate occasions with people i haven't seen since before the pregnancy. I know you would be like 'woah, what a change' but to scream it like that is just embarrassing. What if I really just gained weight? That would be horrid!!

ANY reference to size - The only nice thing to say is " you look great " or "you are carrying SO well " . Any big ,twins(even if you are having them) , big baby comments this time around will get Chat Icon

Are you going to breastfeed - really not your business co worker I barely talk to. This time around if people ask I am going to say No this baby is going strait to Jack Daniels

Any comments on your face changing, getting big, ect- unless its "you look radiant or beautiful shut it!

"Just wait "
" you will never sleep again"- as a BTDT mom, NOT TRUE

I am showing a little bit already , so I am waiting for the stupid comments to begin!

Re: THINGS TO NEVER SAY TO A PREGNANT WOMAN

haven't told many yet with this pg...
so the stupidity hasn't surfaced yet, mmm can't wait though.

My fave from the 1st PG....
"Oh sweetheart you are DEFINETLY having a girl, I mean look @ you, your face, your skin... I mean it's soooo obvious" (I had 1 pimple, unfortuneatly on the day of my shower, it was blatently said to hurt my feelings - well it worked, and almost 2 years later is still stings....)

...thank you close family member

People are RUDE, and insensitive.

Just the other day someone asked if I was finding out the sex of the baby. I said yes, and she cringed and said...Ughhh I hate that!

Well good for you. And good thing its not your baby!

before I popped I got

"You dont even look pregnant."

That hurts too because you clearly are and you clearly feel like you look different... it made me as a plus size woman just feel plain old big

OMG that just reminded me of another one from when I was pregnant with DS. A starbucks barista asked what I was having. I said a boy (which, for the record, I was excited about because I just wanted a HEALTHY baby!) and she gives me a look of sympathy and says, "oh...how do you feel about that?"

You know, I never saw the "you dont even look preggo" or "you look so small for where you are at in your pregnancy" comments as negative until I got pregnant and started hearing it!

Re: THINGS TO NEVER SAY TO A PREGNANT WOMAN

I got "WOW you just exploded overnight!" from a coworker the day after I told everyone. I responded that I was that size for weeks, just no one thinks to look at someone's stomach if they're normal Chat Icon

But the WORST one...::Rub the belly:: "Oh, do you mind when people touch your belly?" like as an afterthought. Yes, I mind! Don't touch me! Especially at work! If I wasn't pregnant and someone did that, I'd have HR all up in that, so why is it considered normal to feel up a preggo? Chat Icon

That one was my intro to people saying stupid things to pregnant women since I had just gotten my BFP! The cow thing was bad, but the Subway lady was horrible!

Re: THINGS TO NEVER SAY TO A PREGNANT WOMAN

I've gotten the typical ones also-

"Your belly is getting more wide than round...you're having a girl"

"I hope you have a girl because I can't picture you with a boy" Gee thanks!

"You're def having a girl because your faced changed"

"You need to start wearing maternity clothes"....ummm I have been thanks Chat Icon

"You haven't gotten ugly yet" Love the YET...like its looming around the corner.

"I can't picture you as a mom, how do you think you'll be"

Ugh I can go on and on!

Re: THINGS TO NEVER SAY TO A PREGNANT WOMAN

I have to say I'm really lucky and have been spared the comments...which is weird-people have been complimentary (thankfully) towards me which is a bit of a shocker...but the ONE line DH and I get repeatedly that makes us nuts is....

"ARE YOU GUYS SURE YOU'RE READY FOR THIS??"

It's like, ummm yeahh A-hole, and at this point, not like we have a choice Chat Icon Chat Icon

I was getting a manicure with my mom last week, and there were 2 little boys running around like lunatics (they were both under 5 btw) in the nail salon. My mom asked me if I was SURE I was ready for all that a grand total of 5 times within 20 minutes. Finally I was like 'YES MOTHER FOR THE 5TH TIME SINCE WE GOT HERE, WE ARE READY, AND IF WE WEREN'T, THERE'S NO TURNING BACK NOW"..

UGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

YES! I second that. You would think it would be flatterig to hear, but people used to tell me a lot that I didn't even look pregnant and YES I DID!!!! I had a much bigger belly than ever in my life. To me you were just implying that I look chunkier, but not 'pregnant'. I used to start getting nasty when people would say stuff like that to me. Chat Icon

Re: THINGS TO NEVER SAY TO A PREGNANT WOMAN

No one has said anything to me yet since no one but parents and sisters know but this is what I am dreading:

"You are putting your baby in day care???? I would NEVER do that!!"

Over the years I have had this discussion with people and got into an argument with someone (a relative!) who said that people shouldnt have kids if they just put them in day care. Sorry but my DH doesnt make 300k to afford our boom priced house in a good SD!!! :)
