things that really annoy you about being a homeowner...

so we've only been homeowners for about 2 months - but i need a mini vent (feel free to add to my vent if anyone else needs to complain about being a homeowner)

so first we move in & discover that our house is INFESTED with ants. problem was taken care of ASAP.

THEN after that day a couple weeks ago when it POURED, we discovered that we have a minor leak in our roof. again - taken care of ASAP

THENNNNN we discover that our hot water heater (BRAND NEW ONE btw) is broken. DH's best friend is ordering the part we need to fix it & it should be fixed by tomorrow or sunday... but ITS STILL FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just seems like its one thing after another - when will it stop?!

anyone else want to share in my vent?!

everyone told me before we closed...look out for the hidden costs of being a homeowner. i guess that's what they mean. i haven't had any major repairs yet (only been there 3 weeks). but so far the washing machine has a leak, the dryer squeaks and the window is sinking.

property taxes on LI.

I can take the issues that go on in the house, but when your property taxes go up $500 a year (if you are lucky) and you see nothing out of it, its something you cant control

this is my BIGGEST & ONLY gripe with living on LI. DH & I were just discussing it last night. We are in our house 3 years next week & our taxes went up $1200 last year (no reason why).

Hope you don't mind me joining in the vent.
We have owned the house for almost a month but Ds, Dh the dog and I are still living in one bedroom at my parents house. We are still getting rid of the smoke and dog pee that covered the house. At least the leak in the roof seems to have stopped. I havee the fun task of scrubbing the nicotine out of the kitchen cabinets

Just today something else happened and now we have to find out why the pool pump plug keeps tripping the circuit breaker. Beleive me it's been one thing after another for the last year. Then of course there is the taxes and bills! Welcome to Home Ownership!!!

yeah we have been homeowners for under three months and we have an $8000 sewer line to repair. yay! means digging up the front yard and wiping out our bank account. awesome

My biggest gripe is the people we bought from sucked. We were first time homebuyers, and they didn't help us at all. For example, our garage has a keypad opener - they didn't leave us the code, and they didn't leave us a phone number or address to contact them. My own ignorance for not asking, but very annoying nonetheless.

I love owning a home, but little things go wrong and I have to figure out how to fix them!

We been in the house 2 1/2 years and so far we had to replace the back french doors (previous homeowners before us did shoddy job on install and water was coming in) and CAC unit. Again previous homeowners never took care of unit. I am glad it hung on for 2 years. Oh and we also had an ant problem a few months after moving in and boy was that fun but all and all I love being a homeowner and expect these things but not too soon.

Ughh we bought a brand new home thinking we wouldnt have to do anything....we were SO wrong. We've been here under a month and already have a list of 10 projects that need to be done right away.

Aside from those projects, we had a huge ant problem the week we moved in (took care of it), we have a water bug issue in the garage, and our backyard is a jungle and we dont own a mower -- we've already had neighbors complain but DH is deployed right now and I couldnt mow it if I tried
I never expected homeownership to be this expensive! Everytime I turn around, there's money being spent on something else that we "need right now"

I'm sorry ladies. It really sounds like you're having a tough go.

My only gripe so far is the $6,000. we spent 2 months after closing on plumbing problems.

So far the only expense I have incurred is a $1600 plumbers bill when my upstairs heating pipes froze last winter.

All because of a bad bleeder valve that was INSIDE a wall.

This is random, but I hate all the fundraisers that come to our door!! I feel like I have shelled out so much this year because I can't say no! Yesterday, when I was out DH said a teenager came to the door and screamed into our window when he didn't answer the door. Then, at 8:45 I get a knock on the door and its the same teenagers selling dollar store junk for $8.00!

we just found out that the ledge of the bay window needs to be replaced because apparently the previous owner would keep the windows open during a storm and it got water damage. now the ledge is dipping!!!

School taxes. Especially the lovely 40 million dollar bond the North Bellmore School District is currently trying to pass.....

we bought last year and we knew that the house hadn't been taken care of in quite a while (previous owners were elderly). My husband was only home on the weekends due to his job and one weekend he came home and was told about 3 expensive breakdowns that occurred that week!!!

Let's see, I'm sure I'm forgetting things (repressed memories), but in the first few months - our central ac unit broke down after the first week of using it. $11000 to fix that and rezone the house (which was desparately needed). We realized pretty much all the windows needed replacing. We had a cricket infestation, which involved an exterminator. The inground sprinkler system needed several repairs to be functional. The hot water heater needed replacing. The chimney's coming off the house (we knew about that from the inspection). There were so many more things....

Good luck. It does get better!

THe central Air worked at the walk through when we bought the hosue at the end of the summer. Went to use it the next summer and it was a no-go. Had to replace the whole friggin thing.'

My biggest peeve....

MY NEIGHBORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I had any idea of what living next door to these people was going to be like, there is no way I would have bought my house.
