The daily Fred update
Sorry if this gets out of hand. This is actually very therapeutic for me writing it all out.
last night Fred was pretty doped up and upset about the wrist restraints..don't want him pulling out anything. He was in some pain since he just had surgery. They gave him morphine and librium to keep him from being agitated. Very hard to see him like that. The nurse said that he may still lose his leg. This got me v. upset. I cried all day yesterday.
So today, I called the neurologist and he said that the few tests he was able to do he was encouraged about his brain. He said the front of the brain is communicating with the back. He did some threat tests and his corneal reflexes are good. This is encouraging. He will have some brain deficit but we won't know yet. It's a day by day thing. If we can get him off the vent then maybe we can see if he can talk. That's scary to me. What happens if he can't talk? What happens if he's just not there? UGH..the what if's will kill me. That won't happen for a while. Keep hoping.
I put a call into the surgeon so I'm waiting for a call back, but today he had to be transfused again since there was more bleeding than usual. They are really doing everything to save his life. I can't ask for more. I don't know if I can go tonight. I don't think I can physically or emotionally. I need a break. I can't go tomorrow either so I guess I shouldn't beat myself up since I will go Saturday and Sunday.
Keep praying. Hopefully, the prayers will all pay off. Fred is fighting. I told the nurses that if he is moving and thrashing about that's good. He never could be confined...he was always a free range Freddy!
Come on Fred Fight!!

I want you to take a break. A nice soak in the tub with some candles....
A glass of port or wine. Maybe a mini massage and the nail salon....
Fred needs your strength as much as you do.

When DH was in the hospital, I kept a journal for him for when he woke up.
If you haven't done it already, I would recommend it. It helps you and will help him to understand things when he starts getting stronger.

Fred definitely sounds like he hasn't given up...that's extremely positive.
