Temping vs OPK?

Which do you prefer? I don't want to do both too much stress but starting next month I need to do something to figure out when I O. My cycles are 21 days in length which my dr isn't concerned with but I'm worried that I'm O when af is here and I'm losing my window.

Opinions? TIA

Temping confirms that you O'd and OPKs tell you that you are about to O. i personally did either both or nothing.

if you think its going to be too much then maybe just OPK and BD every other day or every 2 days before you get a positive OPK

good luck!

Re: Temping vs OPK?

I used OPKs cycle #1, but even though I got a :) I was still curious as to when I actually O'd. I temp'd cycle 2 just so I that I IN FACT O'd and it showed that I had.

So temping didnt change when or how we Chat Icon just confirmed that I O'd and we could stop Chat Icon .

Re: Temping vs OPK?

If you're concerned about stress I would definitely start with OPK's. I use the digital ones with the Chat Icon to let you know you're O'ing. It doesn't confirm that you actually O'ed, but it is enough for me right now to put my mind at ease and help me track my cycles better.

I would start with OPK's and kick it up a notch to temping if you don't see any results in a few months. Chat Icon

Re: Temping vs OPK?

I would go the OPK route...it is easy...you pee on a stick for a few days. Temping seems intense and requires you do do it every day...eeek!

But really try the OPK's, how long do you get your period? I would start doing them like CD 7 for you, you must O earlier than 14 for sure!

I have it for 6-7 days so I'm concerned that - O on day 6 or 7 and if that's the case I'm never getting preggo since sh won't touch me when its here. We bd on day 8 but if I'm O on day 6 or 7 I have no chance of getting pg.

I used opk's the first few months then the dr said to temp. temping was a pain to have to get up at the same time everyday including weekends. the first month my temp was all over the place, but after that I loved it because it was very exact.

Re: Temping vs OPK?

I just bought a CBEFM- cost me 185 for the monitor and 3 months worth of test sticks on Amazon. Dont have it in me to do the temping and with the OPK you are supposed to test at 2 in the afternoon and some people say to test again at 8PM at night- you are not supposed to use FMU. With the CBEFM I can just POAS when I get up in the morning and not have to think about it the rest of the day. Its definitely $$, but it's worth it to me since I want to do something and find it to be the least stressful.
Just my opinion.

Putting a thermometer in my mouth for a minute every morning seems so much easier to me than peeing on a stick every morning. No matter how many times I POAS it never seems to be a neat thing. JMO Chat Icon
BTW, I love taking my temp every morning and seeing the patterns. It takes me two seconds to enter the data into fertility friend. And on the weekends my alarm goes off, I temp, and go back to sleep.

Yea, I really dont know what the big deal is about temping being too much work. Yea maybe on the weekends its annoying but I just set my alarm, take my temp (less than 1min) and then Im back to bed...no biggie for me

Re: Temping vs OPK?

I just started this month and temping. Idk how I like it just yet. Pain that you have to get up every morning at the sametime and do it before you do anything else.

Re: Temping vs OPK?

I thought I would hate temping but it proved to be not nearly as much of a pain as I thought it was. It also helped me confirm that my body was back to "normal" after being diagnosed with a thyroid issue. And to be honest - I don't always get up at the same time on the weekends, but usually within an hour of when I get up during the week, and it hasn't really disrupted my charts.

However I am adding OPKs - but now I know I don't have to start using them until CD13 because I have been charting, and "should" ovulate by CD18 or 19 so the 20 pack should last me a few cycles! I just want to confirm that my hormones show what my temps are showing!

OPKs are really easy and kind of fool proof. The downside is the cost $$$.
