Teachers and TTC...
Do you find that you're planning your pg around the school year?
Dh laughs every time I start scheming about when we need to start trying, etc. I don't think women in other careers need to plan as much as teachers do.
Do you plan? If so, what is "your plan"?
Dh and I want to plan to get PG the second half of this school year, so I can take the second half of the following year off. I don't know how some women do it and return to school in the middle of the school year with students who don't really know you.
Care to share?

Re: Teachers and TTC...
Me too! Unfortunately my ttc plans aren't working out so well. I am not sure what I am going to do. I am very reluctant about returning in the middle of the year after a substitute (leave replacement) has been in there. I fear that classroom management will be twice as hard (because each teacher has their own style and routine) and imagine it is difficult to pick up (in the curriculum) where another left off. I;d love to hear how other teachers handle this as well.

Re: Teachers and TTC...
I planned it. I got pregnant in September and had the baby in June. It doesn't always work that way all the time though...

This is what we did! At least when I leave there will only be one more quarter left.

Re: Teachers and TTC...
When the time comes, we would like to have a March or April baby. This way, I can take off the rest of the year and go back in September.
This would be the ideal situation. Will it happen this way? Who knows!

Re: Teachers and TTC...
I am planning right now.. but I am finding that everything that people say about "planning" with TTC is true. I want to be PG like "now" so that I can go out the last few months of the school year and take the summer off and then go back in September.
Good Luck with whatever you decide.
I do think it is more difficult for teacher than women in other occupations.

I would also like a spring baby so I could return in the fall, but I've learned that nature hasn't been sharing in my plans. I will be overjoyed with a baby whenever that happens and I will figure out work after. Somehow it will all workout. After trying for over a year I don't care when I get PG, I just want to be PG!

Re: Teachers and TTC...
yes we tried to plan #1 for the end of the year ( school year) so i would have off 6 weeks plus suimmer vacation. That ended in a mc. Then we got pg again due in june ( still not bad timing) ended in MC. third try due sept 9th RIGHT WHEN SCHOOL STARTS so my dd was born 9/16 i worked the first 6 days of school last year and then returned in december it was tough going back to kids who i didnt really know but you know what its soo worth it. no matter when youhave the baby. We are trying to time #2 but if it doenstwork out ill be ok.

I started out with a plan to have an early spring baby, so I could go out at the end of the year and then have the whole summer off, but that was a year ago, and I am still not PG, so I don't care when it happens now, I just want to have a baby!!!

Re: Teachers and TTC...
Well, as a teacher I will share with you that I don't think this can be planned. I am due in September, and never expected to be going out on leave the first month of school! You can try to plan it, but you will see that if you don't get pg this first time around you will no longer care when it happens, as long as it happens.

Re: Teachers and TTC...
#1 was a surprise; conceived in August, delivered in May. It was perfect. Then for #2, I tried for the same thing but it took 4 years to get pg AND we conceived in March and he came Nov. 30th. So you never know how these things will work out.

Re: Teachers and TTC...
Many teachers opt for a spring baby so they can take off the remaining year (conceiving in June, July, August).
I used to fell that way too, but I think I'd rather take off the second half of the next year. BUT, as I am learning, my plan is not always "the plan" unfortunately!

Re: Teachers and TTC...
I did not have a plan for my first--consequently, she was born on September 7th--the first day of school
With my 2nd, I did sort of plan--I wanted to have a baby June/July. I started a month early and bam! May baby! So I had to leave early, which was a bit sad since I am not coming back
My SIL swears by the February baby--she has two Feb. boys and takes off the rest of the year (except for the last week or so when she shuts down her classroom). She's currently due w/#3 in January and will take off until Sept. 08.

Re: Teachers and TTC...
I work on the school year calendar and thought I had it all planned out. I was going to get pg in May, take off the second half of a school year, and have the whole summer off. Well, guess what, it's August and I am still not pg. All the planning in the world doesn't mean it will work out. Now I am just hoping that I get pg, nevermind the school calendar.

Re: Teachers and TTC...
I am absolutely trying around school. The problem is it hasn't happened yet!!!! Ideally I wanted to give birth in March so I could've taken the rest of the year off and come bak in Sept. Now if I get preg. this cycle or the next I would be due in May or June right at the end of the school year. It still works but I won't have as much time with the baby as I had hoped for. If it doesn't happen within the next 2 cycles I might have to put ttc off until April of next year. It really stinks because I want this now so bad, I do not wanna have to wait until next year but at the same time I do not wanna give birth in the middle of the school year because I won't be able to take the rest of the year off. It's not feasible financially for us. So I am hoping and praying this will happen for me asap! XOXOXO Kitty

Re: Teachers and TTC...
you can plan all you want, but things don't always work out. my first pregnancy - I was due June 9th - that ended in a m/c. Now I'm due November 9th - guess what, the school will not fall down without me. sometimes I think when you plan too much and things don't work out - it is that much harder to deal with.

Re: Teachers and TTC...
Plans are plans but dont always work. There isn't a cookie-cutter answer in regard to TTC.
I had been PG follwed by an m/c last month. I would have had a due date of March 15th. 12 weeks off for maternity leave would have me going back to work mid-late June. I would have taken vacation days and stayed home through the summer. I was psyched knowing Id have extra time with a newborn.
But again, plans are plans and dont always work. This time around, I am hoping to be able to take leave around the summer even if I have to split it before and after. October would be ideal. I'd have a June delivery and start my leave in September to return in November.
Considering IF issues, surgeries and a miscarriage, Id take it anyway G-d gives it to me and be darn grateful too!

I really don't want to take a break until next summer.. but I just don't think we can afford the leave without pay. Do you get any pay for leave? I get none and it really sux.

Re: Teachers and TTC...
I didn't plan it. We didn't expect to get pg without the aide of fertility drugs. We were going to start this summer. But I got lucky and ovulated in Feb. and bam found out I was pg. I'm due Nov. 15th. I'm happy about that. I'll start the school year, and I plan on taking the rest of the year off. Luckily, we don't use my insurance so I don't have to rush back for that reason.

Good point about the insurance. I am under my husband's insurance so there is not a rush for me to return either (besides the fact that we need a second income to live around here!) I have accrued a lot of sick days too so I have some time to play with.

Re: Teachers and TTC...
I actually haven't planned it at all. we have been trying since we got married and still aren't pregnant. I didn't want to wait, in case it took a while. i am so glad that i didn't. you never know if it's going to happen right a way or take a while and we just didn't want to risk waiting.

Re: Teachers and TTC...
We are not TTC just yet but ideally we would like to plan it.
I would like to get pregnant and have the baby in the spring around April and take off the remainder of the school year (or even come back for the last 2 weeks - for me it would be finals and regents) and then have the summer with the baby and then return to work in Sept.
That would be our ideal situation.
