swelling question

i'm 33 weeks (will be 34 on sunday) and i've been swelling since really early on. my right hand has always been slightly more swollen than my left, but that's not too uncommon for me in general, so no big deal.

today i noticed my right leg literally blew up. i came home from work and the swelling went down a bit, but now it started again and i've been doing nothing. my right hand is also much bigger... while my hand doesn't hurt, my foot does.

is this something i should call about? i hate to call my midwife over something stupid - i know swelling is common during pregnancy, but i also want to make sure everything's ok.

tia!

Re: swelling question

my theory on call or don't call is -

if the pain/problem is random and kinda fading with time - leave it be.

if the problem/pain is CONSISTENT and bad enough to write out a post about it....you should probably call.

the WORST thing that can happen by calling is your doc/midwife/nurse can say - you are fine, no worries. I don't need to give you a list of the worst things that can happen if you DO NOT call because you don't want to be a worry wart!

you'll sleep better if you call....you'll feel some level of relief....

Re: swelling question

I would call. I think swelling on one side is reason enough to call, even just to get peace of mind.

Re: swelling question

I would call. I wasnt going to ask about swelling and when they took my pressure I am looking at possible pre-eclampsia.

It never hurts to call.

Re: swelling question

I would call, you can never be too careful with swelling, especially if it's only on one side.

Re: swelling question

I would call as well. I'm very swollen too and my left side is usually more swollen then my right but my blood pressure has been fine and my doctor didn't mention any complications. I would just call to get a peace of mind on it! Chat Icon

Re: swelling question

I would call, I was told/read that if the swelling comes on abruptly or if it is significantly more in one side than the other you should call/ see dr. Could be sign of pre-eclampsia
