Middle. We had a hard time getting it in but a professional correctly installed it for us.

same here, however, once DD turns one, it's going into the middle.

We have captains chairs.. same with our old vehicle too. DD is always behind the passenger.. I never would have put her in the middle if we had a bench anyway.

Ours is in the middle of the back seat and we use the LATCH system.

ETA: According to owner's manual, having it in the middle with Latch is fine.

same here - we had a it done by a safety person and he put it there - i felt he knew better than i do, so i left it there.

Ours has to be behind the passenger seat - which is what is suggested by not only the manufacturer but I was told when I had it installed by the safety person that it was the safest place.
It largely depends on what car you have - some are not made for a seat in the middle.
