Stupid question about diaper rash cream
Can a baby become immune to a diaper rash cream if used every day? I've been using triple paste on DD and my mom said I such reserve that for just when she has diaper rash, and that I should use something like Balmex everyday instead. I figure if I'm going to be using something every day, just use one and the instructions say that it can be used to prevent also.
I was curious what everyone else does. TIA!

Re: Stupid question about diaper rash cream
I didn't use anything except powder at night. If they're not completely dry it can trap moisture and cause problems sof no rash=no cream in my house.

I don't know the answer to your question...but I myself did save triple paste for the occasional rash...I also don't use Balmex/Desitin at every diaper change, only after poo usually ...I don't "think" they can get immune though...good question

Re: Stupid question about diaper rash cream
i only use something when she starts to look red, and since finally being able to switch to cloth, we haven't had any problems!

Re: Stupid question about diaper rash cream
Not sure if they can become immune or not - but something to think about - what is the difference between the creams?
I know Butt Paste has a higher % of whatever the active ingredient over desiten/balmex.
I don't use any creams unless there is a rash.

Re: Stupid question about diaper rash cream
no, a baby can't become 'immune' to diaper creme. The only things that can lose effectiveness are antibiotics (don't finish the prescribed amount and the bacteria mutate and become resistant) or certain other medications... like pain meds (where whatever receptor the drug hits becomes upregulated, so you need more and more of the stuff to get the same effect).
That being said, most diaper cremes are super . We only use it (in our case burt's bees diaper creme) when there's a hint of a rash developing. otherwise, we use straight vaseline... much less $$$.
