Store Brand formulas ... does anyone use them?
I have been considering switching to store brand formula since its so much cheaper even with checks and coupons but for some reason I am hesitant. my DR told me its the same thing but I sitll cant get myself to do it. currently DD is on regular enfamil. Does anyone use store brand? If so which one?

I used WalMart and thought it was fine!! It was only $11 a canister (Similac was like $24). Plus, they offer $3 coupons

Yep. Used Target's Up and Up brand...........the EXACT same as the Enfamil Lipil I was using and it was HALF the price. $12.50/can as opposed to $24.99/can. It was a HUGE savings especially once my DD was eating more and more. Next time around I will go straight for the store brand. I also love Target diapers too!!...........more than half the price of Pampers and I actually like them better. You can't beat the store brands sometimes.

I used Berkley and Jensen (BJ's Brand) and it had literally the EXACT SAME INGREDIENTS and was 19.99 for a huge thing that lasted me 2 weeks!!! Never looked back, plus then similac had the bug scare and I promised myself I would never look back!!! I think I have a coupon to if you want/need it.

Target- they have a ton of varietys- they have a version of the AR, a version of the gentlease, etc
Worked great for us- nearly HALF the price and my DD is thriving on it.
If you read Baby Bargins there is a section on this.
All formula in the US by LAW has to provide the same nutritonal value so it's really just advertising and fancy packaging you are paying for with the name brands. That and the fear factor that people THINK they are harming their children by not using Enfamil or Similac.
It's a great marketing campaign- it really is.

I use up and up too and I love it. Also, similiac smells like sour cream but the up and up smells like malted powder. It's wonderful and half the price.

Another vote for Target brand. As a matter of fact, we bought the Up & Up sensitive for DS and liked it MUCH, MUCH better than the Similac Sensitive. The Similac was a frothy mess with so much air in it, and the Up & Up didnt do that!

We have used Target brand. It saves a ton of money and has all of the same ingredients. We never had any issues with it.

DS1 was on similac sensitive and I stockpiled coupons and checks and purchased @ BJs. (at the time, BJs didn't have a generic version of sim sens). With all the discounts, the Similac was coming out cheaper than Target brand.
This time, I likely won't have all the checks I had last time, so I'll go right to store brand once we run out of all the freebies.

Target, babies r us, walmart, rite aid, cvs and bj's brand formulas are all made by the same company - pbmproducts.com
Ds has been on generic for about 3 months now and there was no difference besides the price !!!

as a ped dietitian I strongly recommend that babies wait until 6mths of age to be placed on generic formula.
Yes, all babies will grow on formula...hell they will grow on sugar and water and evaporated milk like long ago...however generics are not the same as any brand product...from diapers, hair products to formula.
Here is the real honest deal...the ingredients are not the same..look at the label and you will see (not percentages...actual ingredients)..Almost all of the vitamins are different (cheaper quality), in products like gentle..they do not partially hydrolyze their proteins like the brand product...the most important issue to me is that they can not trace where the whey/caesin came from. WIth En, Sim, GS you can trace to the cow and farm directly...this was a huge issue with regards to issue in china a few years back.
ANyway...honestly...think about generic food products that you have tried...they are not the same as the brand...but I understand that parents have to do what they have to do...so I recommend waiting till 6mths when formula is not the sole source of nutrition..also...go with generic diapers, wipes, beauty products and your own food items before switiching your childs formula to generic before 6mths. The goal is to have babies grow the same as breastfed babies and to provide proper ABSORBABLE nutrients. Take a generic vitamin and a rx one..put it in a glass...an in 1 hour you will see that the store brand has not broken down where as the Rx has....so although "same" vitamins..different quality..different absorption.
ANyway..that's my 2 cents....
