I switched to the Target brand when DD was 6 months old and never looked back. She did great on it and the price is phenomenol.

Yes, all babies will grow on formula...hell they will grow on sugar and water and evaporated milk like long ago...however generics are not the same as any brand product...from diapers, hair products to formula.
Here is the real honest deal...the ingredients are not the same..look at the label and you will see (not percentages...actual ingredients)..Almost all of the vitamins are different (cheaper quality), in products like gentle..they do not partially hydrolyze their proteins like the brand product...the most important issue to me is that they can not trace where the whey/caesin came from. WIth En, Sim, GS you can trace to the cow and farm directly...this was a huge issue with regards to issue in china a few years back.
ANyway...honestly...think about generic food products that you have tried...they are not the same as the brand...but I understand that parents have to do what they have to do...so I recommend waiting till 6mths when formula is not the sole source of nutrition..also...go with generic diapers, wipes, beauty products and your own food items before switiching your childs formula to generic before 6mths. The goal is to have babies grow the same as breastfed babies and to provide proper ABSORBABLE nutrients. Take a generic vitamin and a rx one..put it in a glass...an in 1 hour you will see that the store brand has not broken down where as the Rx has....so although "same" vitamins..different quality..different absorption.
ANyway..that's my 2 cents....

so are you saying after 6 months its ok or you wouldnt do it at all? In the long could we afford to keep her on the name brands yes but if I can save money i will but not if it will harm my DD in the long run.
Also DD is 5 months old and is already eating cearel and fruit? What happens at 6 months I assume the can eat more stuff that has nutrients??

We used the Wal-Mart version of Similac Sensitive for both of my kids.

With DD I used the target brand, with DS I cant use a generic only bc he is on the goodstart and there isnt one made for that one..if there was, I would without hesitation.

Usually around 6 mtgs babies are eating a wide variety if foods at each meal. Before this time formula is the sole source of nutrition.
I would say it is safer to wait to 6mths if you have to make the change but again. Try store brand diapers wipes tampons etc to save money before doing formula generic It is safe but not worth the cost savings in my opinions.

FYI: there is no store brand made for any companies product....all are have exclusive confidential formulations...much like Pepsi Coke, etc.
