I tried them and hated it.
You just scan as you shop and put your stuff in bags as you go. Then at check out the hand scanner downloads all the info to the register and you just pay and go.

I have used them a number of times and it's only when I've had to get a few quick things and the kids were with me (I dont' like to food shop with the kids) and it keeps them entertained.
I like that you can keep track of your spending as you go

Yes, it does. And it makes it easy to price check too without having to find a scanner in the store. And, if something is coming up incorrect, you know ahead of time.
I love it - just easier and quicker to me.

Occasionally you get "audited." Your order won't show up on the screen and an employee has to scan about 4-5 items in your cart to make sure you had scanned them.
For a while I felt like it was happening a lot, but I haven't gotten audited in about a month now.

Yep.. they will do it randomly but I have never been checked either.. (then again, I've never walked out with anymore than 1-2 bags of stuff)

I've been randomly checked twice. The person just takes a few items from the bag (usually small) and sees if they are on my order to make sure they are scanned. I think it's supposed to be random, and you 'agree' to the terms of having a random search when you take the scanner gun.

Yep you get audited. I had it happen one time where I accidentally (truthfully) forgot to scan an item. And I was audited and they found it. I was audited a lot after that. But haven't been in a while. I don't do big orders for it though.
Also you get exclusive coupons based on things you have purchased previously. I don't always use the scan it but you can go online and check your account and see what your personal scan-it coupons are and then I decide if I want to do it. I purchase italian sausages a lot (DH like them  ). There have been quite a few times where they will be on sale, and I will have a special scan-it discount and ON TOP of that I have a manufacture coupon. Works out great.
Also I just saw in the store that they now have the Scan-it app available on the Iphone and Android so you don't even have to use the scanners but I am not sure how that works.

DH and I use the self-scanner all the time. It makes things do much easier. We've been stoppe and audited a few times but never had a problem.

I love that I can track my balance as I go, check to see if something rings up right, lkmit impulse purchase...........
and while everyone else is waiting in line and having a their bags packed poorly, I am walking out of the store.
I save a lot of time and money because of it. And I haven't had squished bread or broken eggs since I started using it

i refuse to shop without it... this is kind of embarassing but whatever, i'll own it...
i actually walked out of s&s in w. hempstead bc there were no scanners available and drove to the one in carle place. i was also 8 months preg at the time and not of sound mind.

Trust me- I have done the same!
And I wasn't preggo- no excuse!
The other day I was there and they had no fully charged scanners at the station by the door I walked in. I went to the other door and same thing.
I started to shop and just couldn't do it. It felt WRONG to not scan things as I went- just wrong somehow!
I was gonna leave, but I ended up just doing half my shopping and when i checked back there was scanners available and I went down a quiet aisle, scanned all my stuff and continued shopping!
I am insane!!!!

I love the scanner and it's the only reason I shop there really. Dh and I do our big food shoppin that way. Pack and sort things the way we want to and then checkout is very easy. Just be careful if you have the habit of scanning and removing items to check prices. I found out this is the main reason why we were being audited almost every single time.

I love the scanner. I bring my reusable bags, and scan and bag as I'm shopping. When I'm done, I just have to scan the barcode at the checkout, scan my S&S card, and pay, and I'm ready to go!
When you get to S&S, just scan your card at the kiosk and a scanner will be prepared for you. A lot of the carts have scanner holders at the top, so you don't even have to hold it as you go. Love it!

I completely agree.
I love it. I never over spend. I can go to the 10 items or less lane even with a full cart of groceries and be out ASAP!
