Stonybrook Midwives
Does anyone on here go to SB Midwives in East Setauket? I'm pretty frustrated with the practice with how long they keep patients waiting and wondering if it's normal? The first time I went they "forgot" me and kept me waiting for over an hour (I had a 12:15 sono and finally left the building at 5pm...their excuse for the delay was they were learning the new electronic system). My second appointment I waited 40 minutes past my appointment for the sonogram and then another additional 20 minutes for the midwife. Is this normal?? I want to stay with the practice because I love the thought of going to a midwife but I feel like it's almost too big here and the practice isn't well organized.

Stonybrook Midwives
I don't see the midwives but I see the high risk doctors who are in the same practice. ITA they are extremely frustrating. Not so much the doctors and PA's but the staff particularly in the front and exit. They sit around and gab while there's a line, they aren't very friendly, and it's getting on my last nerve. I go every 2 weeks for a checkup since I'm high risk. 2 weeks ago, they didn't have my appointment in their system. They checked my chart and there was the script showing I was due for an appt that week and they were able to squeeze me in. They once gave me the first appointment they had one morning at 8:15. I was the only one there for awhile. I didn't get called in until 8:45 and it wasn't like they were backed up b/c no one else was there!
And while most of the doctors I've dealt with have been fine, I've had some issues with one in particular. I went today, had a growth sono, baby looked great! I go in for my appt w/ the doctor and she comes in and says there is still some fluid around the baby's heart. Um what???? No one ever told me that. I went for a fetal echo 4 weeks ago and was told everything was fine. So she leaves the room and comes back --- WRONG PATIENT.

I go there. I am not crazy about the front desk but love the midwives and nurses. I haven't had crazy wait times except maybe once. It does get busy there. I find the later appts are better for some reason. My main fault with the practice is they don't offer Sonos at night. Especially with twins I can't go past 2 pm appt. not conducive to work.

I went to the ES office once for my first appt...I go to Bohemia now and am very happy there. It's a smaller office and much nicer IMO.

I do and have never had a problem with long waits. It has been tough lately since they implemented the new computer system. Appointments seem to be very limited and you are basically at their mercy. I really dislike the staff at the reception area. I find them to be kind of nasty and unhelpful. I love the midwives though and have had two great deliveries with them.

Re: Stonybrook Midwives
I used them and throughout my pregnancy the office consistently went downhill. I had multiple issues with the front desk staff. This new system is a giant ***********. They've also gotten patient charts mixed up! I was also not too happy with my post partum care - very hard to get in touch with a midwife when I had issues.
I'm thinking of looking for a new practice next time around if the office does not improve.
