If you use them do you have intentions on going for a natural delivery? Does anyone use them knowing they want an epidural?

I'm thinking about switching OB's in order to deliver at Stonybrook and they have an office a few minutes away from me.

Thanks!!

I dont use them, but I'm pretty sure if you want an epi they will allow it.

Re: Stonybrook Midwives

I used the Stony Brook midwives for Landon. I think you know my story. I had him 2 weeks late, so after being induced with pitocin I needed the epidural, and ended up needing a c-section because he was sunnyside up. The midwives are great! I am going to use them again if/when I have another baby and will try for VBAC up to 38 weeks, or else schedule c-section with their associates after 38 weeks.
There are a group of doctors that share the office space with them, and this is who did my c-section. That could be another option for you - University Associates In OBGYN.

I used them for my first baby and I asked for an epidural (didn't work though). They would give you one if you want it. They are great, I'm using them again for baby #2. This time I'm going for med-free, since the epi didn't work last time (they tried 3xs, and that was painful itself).
I highly recommend them. GL!
I go to the E Setauket office (there is barely ever a wait, which I love) and they also have satelite offices.

Do they make you wait as long as possible for an epi? Do they try and talk you out of it?

I've always been under the impression that midwives were for "all natural" births. I know with out a doubt I want an epi.

I obviously didn't use Stony Brook but the practice I went to had midwives and OB/GYN's. At every visit I saw a different midwife and one of my favorites delivered Athan (I didn't see a doctor at all on deliver day). I had an "image" of what midwives would be like.. all natural, no drugs, and they were NOTHING like that (but I am guessing they CAN be if that's what you want). I made it known from visit 1 that I was all about the epi and NO PAIN... and they were FANTASTIC! I had a great experience and would use them again should I have another baby Chat Icon

No, when I asked for it they contacted the anastesiologist (sp?), right away. Even though he didn't show up right away b/c he was busy. I discussed that with the midwife before hand b/c I also knew I would want it. They did not try to talk me out of it. They are pretty open minded.
