Spinoff...Are you a Christmas Tree Snob?
I mean, do you like your Christmas Tree to look a certain way? I am so neurotic about it. I will not put tinsel, garland or colored lights on my tree. Also wooden or handmade ornaments go in the back of the tree (the side that faces the wall). Glass ornaments only on the front and sides of the tree.
Am I alone?

I totally am! I dont like when people give me ornaments because I am super picky about them. My DH's parents gave him all these lame "#1 son" ornaments and football figurines. They are hidden way in the back of the tree.

Not at all -- I love how our tree is an eclectic collection of ornaments we purchased or recieved over the years.
We are phasing out the filler ornaments we bought when we first got our tree which we are replacing with more sentimental ornaments.

I am. I dont like a messy look going on, I will hide DH "ornaments" in the back. I hate two big balls next to each other, not a fan of ANY color lights, its white or nothing. I dont like garland. I am a Christmas tree snob. Oh and my balls and such have to match my house decor, color wise. I have earth tones and browns, and golds, Im not going to put red and green balls up.

No way.....I have really old ornaments that I made when I was a kid.....Some were handed down to me....My tree is always a big mix and nothing "matches", but each ornament has special meaning, even if it's ugly!

Re: Spinoff...Are you a Christmas Tree Snob?
No, I am not. I think there is a certain amount of personal taste involved in decorating a tree but if it looks too perfect or too "Monica" from Friends, it doesn't have the same feel. I like something in between obsessive and clutter.

Re: Spinoff...Are you a Christmas Tree Snob?
I guess I'm a tree snob. I'm not a big fan of people buying us ornaments. Everybody seems to think we want Black Lab ornaments b/c we have 2 Labs.
However, I do love the Radko ornaments I have received over the years.
I also have quite a few hand-beaded ornaments that my mom made while she was pregnant with me. I'd love to put them on the tree one day, but it will be when our children are a bit older (the ornaments are made with stick pins.)

Re: Spinoff...Are you a Christmas Tree Snob?
Not us. Everything is bright and colorful and random, or chaotic, depending on your point of view....
DS helped decorate last year, so you know it isn't going to be "perfect". I enjoy looking at photo-quality trees, but I don't think we'll ever have one in our house, and that's just fine with me.

Re: Spinoff...Are you a Christmas Tree Snob?
well it depends on what you mean by snob, but I do like my tree a certain way. I try to follow my theme every year.
That would be: Colored lights Glass to the back or on top Mostly wooden handmade ornaments, old fashioned heirloom looking ones, bells, and stars.
actually I guess I am less of a snob every year. I have been adding a lot of sentimental though ugly ornaments IE the ones I "inherited" from my parents tree (crazed looking elves, weird angels, ornaments that were my brothers) or like my MIL gave us DHs ornament he made in 1st grade with his picture in it. My tree is telling more of our story every year....

Re: Spinoff...Are you a Christmas Tree Snob?
yes- I totally am
I hate colored lights- tinsel- all the orments have to go together
I grew up watching my Mom's best freind- who had the most perfect tree- and still does- she could give MArtha a run for her money (she would have a 2nd tree for her kids to decorate)

Re: Spinoff...Are you a Christmas Tree Snob?
I definitely am. I only do a Lenox tree (85% all Lenox ornaments). Only use gold, cream or white decorations. It's a "snobby" tree, but I love how it looks. My son has his own tree in his room that he decorates himself with his own ornaments. Next year I will also but one for my younger son.

Re: Spinoff...Are you a Christmas Tree Snob?
My mom does that too. She has one that looks like its from a Fortunoff display and then another one with ornaments from when my sister and I were little that we made and were given.
I am not a snob in the least. I like the eclecticness of a mish mash tree. We have ornaments that we were given and some that we bought. Each has meaning.

My aunt did something similar...that's how I got the Christmas tree bug.

Re: Spinoff...Are you a Christmas Tree Snob?
I like some sort of organization and color theme overall. Silver, cremes, turquoise, no red or green overall on my tree. I agree, some ornaments I use only as fillers, and I will NOT put them on the outside of the tree.
I love the ornaments at Restoration Harwdare, Crate and Barrel, PB or Pier1. But I do use any kind of ornament that I feel can work with my overall color scheme. I love snowmen ornaments and have an assortment of different types.
I think if you have kids there should be a tree that they can enjoy with cute ornaments, not just a decorative one for adults.
In hte future I would like to do a theme tree in all Turquoise, and keep my existing tree as a kid's tree, while still incorporating nice ornaments and fun ornaments, as long as it all seems to blend.

Same here. I'm still new to the tree thing, but in my 4 years of decorating our tree, I've become a total tree snob! I prefer only white lights and wooden or handmade ornaments go in the back of the tree!
BTW, I also love the Radko ornaments (he makes beautiful Chanukah ornaments too).

Re: Spinoff...Are you a Christmas Tree Snob?
I guess you can call me a Christmas tree SLOB!
I love all of our ornaments. The cheap ones, the fancy ones, the handmade ones and the cheesy ones.
I especially LOVE when people give me ornaments. One of our favorite traditions for Christmas is when we unpack the ornaments. The boys like me to tell them stories about who gave us each ornament and where that person is now and why THAT ornament was given.
Our tree will never be in House Beautiful - but what it lacks in sophistication it makes up for in character and heart.

Re: Spinoff...Are you a Christmas Tree Snob?
No - I love to see a tree with lots of ornaments. I am not a fan of everything matching on the tree. I think ornaments give a little family history as you grow each year.
