Spinoff: When did you get your first cell phone?
... and what did it look like?
I got my first one in 1995, I was working for Sprint, we were designing their cellular network along the thruway from Newburgh to Syracuse.
I thought it was awesome then, now it looks huge - here's a pic (mine was actaully bigger because I had the huge extended life battery on the back):

They were a fortune back then and calling plans were unheard of - you paid by the minute.

mine looked just like the one on the left - i got it when i was 17, it was my dad's old phone, and i was only allowed to keep it in the car and use it for emergencies

I got my first one in 2000, when I finally had a car with me at college. My parents paid for me to have one of the pre-paid ones for emergency use only! I honestly don't even remember what it looked like - it was 4 phones ago!

I just mine in November. Yeah, I know, a little late. I had no real reason for one before then since my logic was if I wasn't nearby a phone, I was probably out somewhere and did not wish to be available. Of course after getting a phone, I don't know how I lasted as long as I did without one.

it was crazy! I was lucky my company paid for it ....which is funny because when I was in the field I was usually somewhere where cells towers didn't exist yet ...seeing as that was my job and all

I got mine in 1999. I still had my beeper. And my claim to my parents was when people beep me I need to call them back--and how will I do that if I have no $ for the payphone.
Mine was a verizon phone that was the size of a vcr remote.
It was nicely stolen the day after I got it lol.

I got my first cell phone in 2000 after graduating college. It looked a lot like the one above. After having one, I can't even imagine what life was like before I had it.

I had this phone. but with a green cover. I got it in 2000.
DH has had a cell phone since he was 16 (he's 30 now), he used to work in a beeper/cell phone store.

I don't remember when I got my first phone, but back in 2000 I remember my startac was stolen and so I used my parents' old old phone from about 1994 or something. My brother used to tease me and ask "Where do you put the quarters in that thing!"

I had the Nokia with a pink see-through cover! Got it in 2000 I think, when I was going into junior year in college. I was able to have a car there that year and my parents wanted me to have a phone for when I drove home, etc.

This was mine too! I think I got it in 2000 as a Christmas gift from DH. I even had a blue face plate!
