b/c of his size- people think he is mean, scary, etc

90% of the time he is a teddybear

the other 10% of the time your did something and desserved it

also- that b/c he looks like a football player- he loves football

he hates football- we don't even watch the super bowl

My FH is a design and consulting mechanical engineer.

For some reason, as soon as someone asks a question further than that and he explains he designs mainly HVAC systems for high rise office buildings, people think he is an air conditioner repair man. Not that there is anything wrong with being an air conditioner repair man - he just isn't. I don't get it. I had no trouble understanding his job.

Once, he started explaining what he did by mentioning HVAC. The guy assumed repair man. I said, "no, he's a mechanical engineer." The guy said "OH, is THAT what you're calling it these days."

Oh I hear this all the time "Jenn you DH is so Quiet" Yeah in front of you he is, get him home and he doesnt shut up.

because my DH has 14 tattoos, people think he is rough around the edges. But actually he is a major softy. Especially lately, he has been all cuddly and talking about starting a family...

That b/c he works for a hedge fund he makes TONS of money. Um, no, the money goes back to the investors and the owners and partners. He does ok, but he still has to work.

That he is a bad boy but he is so far from that. Also alot people think I have him whipped.

-that he's handy because he's an electrician. He wants to be, but isn't. He doesn't think things through - like the time he ripped up the kitchen tile BEFORE we picked out new tile. My kids were stuck to the floor because it was like flypaper.

- that he is angry. He has an angry face. He gets angry but not as much as everyone thinks.

-That he's not smart. He's actually one of the most methodical thinkers (outside of handyman work).

My husband is Chinese and people assume he is a dork. They also assume he talks like he just got off the boat. He grew up in Brooklyn for crying out loud.

That he is quiet and mean.

BUT he is actually really nice and NOT SO QUIET.

I also have problems explaining what he does for a living. He owns his own business but it is a bait store - it isn't a BAIT SHACK it is a BAIT STORE with bait and tackle and it takes up two store fronts - people think he is selling worms out of a bucket on the side of the road. and wonder why he left college to work there!

That he is so quiet and sweet.

His close friends call him Demon Boy. Any time they ever got in trouble, it was an idea that he quietly planted in their minds. And those guys got into a sh*tload of trouble back in the day.

That he is scary, violent and mean because of his size-- he is broad and he's big but the sweetest person ever.

They also think he is filthy rich and gets everything handed to him b/c his parents have money.

When he bought his car (that he bought himself) and he came to his family biz with it all of the workers were like "Wow Vin, you are so lucky-- the fact that your parents bought you that is SO nice" ...they just ASSUMED!!!! He was furious and hurt.

Vinny has worked at his fam biz since he was FOURTEEN YEARS OLD... He works over 100 hour weeks and has always been that way. So, that annoys him A LOT and upsets me!

Also, they assume he is a gumba/guido and unintelligent because his name is Vinny and because he is 100% Italian-- he gets this all the time. They expect him to be wearing a sweatsuit with a big gold necklace and rings on every finger-- my DH could not be FURTHER from that sterotype.

They go "where's the big, Italian HORN??" "Heyyyy VINNYYY!!!! YO VINNY!!!" It drives him NUTS.

When people hear that my DH is from Iran people automatically think that he is a practicing muslim or that he supports the current regime there (or the really ignorant ones think he must be a terrorist) When in fact his family left the country when he was 4 months old, he doesn't practice any religion and no one in his family will even go back to visit Iran because they are so saddened by the state of the country now..
