we have a house phone. I use it a lot but I am home all day.

Same I am a SAHM so I use the house phone all the time. Plus with the bundle pkgs with the phone/ internet/ cable, its like $15 a month. Not worth cancelling.

Plus I feel its beneficial to have it in case of an emergency. What if you can't find your cell, or the battery dies, or you can't get good reception and need to call 911 or something. I just couldnt get rid of it completely.

I would never completely shut off a landline for 911 purposes JMO

You can use a cellphone for 911. The technology for cellphones is pretty advanced. They can pinpoint exactly where you are located when calling 911 from your cell.

I also have an AT&T Microcell which boosts cellphone reception. You have to register the Microcell with your home address, specifically for 911 purposes. When you call 911 they get the address of your microcell.

I don't even need a landline for my security system anymore. I am putting a new security system in my house that is computer IP Address capable. Security is done via your broadband internet. The central station gets notified faster this way since there is no dialing. If a malcontent cuts all the wires outside my house, I still have the wireless cellphone backup dialer.

I'll never pay for a landline again.

yes, we have a land line and most people call us on that.....

I would never give it up since we are in an area that is very hilly and wooded and cell phone service is just ok, at best.

I am old school. I will always have a land line. It makes me feel better having it.

Re: Spinoff to House Phones

We have one as part of our triple play with Cablevision... The 26 missed calls we have that have been flashing since November indicate how much we use it. No one has the number and DH will only call it if I'm home and not picking up my cell.

Re: Spinoff to House Phones

We do because I didn't want the school only calling one or the other of us...this way if they leave a message its there for both of us to pick up.

Also there are some places I don't like to give my cell # to...they get the landline.

I said yes and I use it frequently. I HATE talking to people on my cell phone. I feel like I can't hear them as well, the cell phone is not comfortable to hold and talk on, it gets hot after a while, the reception isn't always the greatest AND there's that whole thing about getting brain cancer from the radiation.

I ONLY use my cell phone when I'm out. If I'm home and someone calls it, I hang up and call them back from my land line if the conversation is gong to be more than 30 seconds. I can't imagine ever not having a regular house phone.

Yes, we have a land line & I use it a lot more than I use my cell phone. I mostly just use my cell for texting & so any conversations especially if more than a minute or two, I use the house phone. We have the cable/internet/phone package.

Re: Spinoff to House Phones

We have one, we barely use it. It doesn't make sense to get rid of it because we have the triple play, so it ends up being really cheap. Its useless in emergency situations like power outages & stuff, but good if our cell phones die i guess its good.

Re: Spinoff to House Phones

We have it.
1. 911. I think that if you call from a house phone they can locate you quicker than with a cell if for some reason you can't talk.
2. you could lose your cell.. then you have nothing.
3. kids. DS is not old enough now but, when he is I want his friends to call the house. I want to know what's going on. I am not convinced that I will get him a cell so quickly.

I actually use my landline. I agree that i can hear better on it. It doesn't drop calls. I just prefer it when I am at home.
