Spin off to DONE: How do you know you are DONE.
I love having DD. I can't imagine what life was like before her and look forward to having more. But now that I'm back to work FT I'm not sure anymore. I think I can handle one more and that's it. How did you all know you were done?

I just always knew- from the time I was young that I'd either have no kids or just one. It was like I just KNEW it. The minute I found out I was pregnant I knew that woudl be it.

Spin off to DONE: How do you know you are DONE.
My age is a pretty big factor for me. I also have 2 SD's, so it's like I have 3 kids...And, like I mentioned in the other post - I really didn't enjoy being pregnant. I was very sick for a lot of it (morning sickness, severe groin pain, diabetes), and it seemed like every sono I went to, I got bad news.

Re: Spin off to DONE: How do you know you are DONE.
As another FT mom I have similar feelings. Have no idea how I would be able to handle another. But, I really want to give DC a sibling so we will definitely have another.
Whether to have a third is the big question. DH would like 3, I dont think I could handle it. We'll see how #2 goes.

Spin off to DONE: How do you know you are DONE.
I always wanted to have 2-4 kids. Once I had 2 I knew I was done. I don't really have family to help regularly and thats a big factor. If my parents were to ever move back to NY or if my ILs would help more maybe I would change my mind but for now we are soooo done lol.

Re: Spin off to DONE: How do you know you are DONE.
We talked about having 2 or 3. After having our second son, we were holding in the hospital bed and just staring at him...I said to my husband "We have one more in us I think.." and he agreed, lol. I just knew that after having him we weren't done.
Now, I'm 12 weeks pg with our third and I know without a shadow of a doubt we're done. I'm going back to school, I've had terrible MS etc...I MAY have those feelings of missing having a newborn and the excitement, but I just know in my heart this is it. And DH will get a vasectomy right away, so it has to be anyway

Re: Spin off to DONE: How do you know you are DONE.
We just knew. We are spread thin, time wise, and one more would just put us over the edge. Right now, we are at a nice balance time wise/financially but one more would be too much.
Plus, after my last delivery, I would NOT risk it again. It was REALLY scary. I went downhill fast right after the birth.

Re: Spin off to DONE: How do you know you are DONE.
I knew after my first I was not done. But my DH wasn't as gung ho. He agreed to have our second but told me wrap my head around the fact that that was it. And so I did. I feel completely done. My younger DS will be 3 in March, and guess who wants to have another baby?! My DH!!! I've been giving it some thought, but I really don't think I want to. He really wants a daughter, and as we all know, there are no guarantees. I'm very afraid he would be extremely disappointed if we ad another boy. And I honestly don't even know if I'm cable of handling 3 boys. The idea of it scares the crap out of me.

Re: Spin off to DONE: How do you know you are DONE.
I always wanted two kids.
I have two amazing boys. I am 40 years old. They are 2 and almost 5.
After number 2, I like seeing other babies, but don't feel an urge for another. Sleep deprivation is hard on me! And my DH is always worried about financial security.
So- we are set!

Spin off to DONE: How do you know you are DONE.
DH and I always said we wanted to have 2 kids. After my DD was born I couldn't imagine having another child because I just wanted to spend all of my time with her. But I want her to have a sibling. It took me a while to become ready to TTC #2. My DD is 22 months and we are TTC #2. Hopefully it will happen soon because my age is weighing heavily on my shoulders.

Re: Spin off to DONE: How do you know you are DONE.
I just knew, just like you know if you want a child to begin with.
After DD1, I knew I wasn't done. After DS, I was ambivalant, we decided to see what happens. After DD2, I knew I was done.

Re: Spin off to DONE: How do you know you are DONE.
DH and I are 37, I will turn 38 two weeks after our second is due, we're out of bedrooms, the thought of being pregnant again at my age is not too appealing.........I want my body back FOR GOOD, and honestly, we want there to be a time when it's just "us" again. Because we're older having more kids than the two start pushing into retirement years and we don't want to be 65 still dealing with raising kids.......we want them to be on their own and living their life by then so we can get our life back too. I want DH to retire and I want us to have the freedom to enjoy our later years.
Plus two feels like a nice number, we'll have a girl and boy now and it's a perfect little family. We feel complete. IF a third dropped in we'd be happy but we have no plans to actively try for any more after this LO is born. We both like the idea of just living life now, enjoying our little family, and not having to "start over" again with another one after our DS is born.

Re: Spin off to DONE: How do you know you are DONE.
When we got married we both wanted 4 (or more ). Then we dealt with infertility, difficult pregnancy and delivery... and after DS we weren't sure if we even wanted another. But we definitely didn't feel done so we went for #2 and after being blessed with DD we both feel 100% done. Having kids is a lot harder then we both imagined and I'm just not great at the baby stage. We look forward to moving on, doing fun things without worrying about a baby, not being a slave to naps and bedtimes, sleeping without a baby monitor, etc, etc, etc, DH turns 40 this year so he is ready to move on based on age alone. He does want to retire eventually!

Re: Spin off to DONE: How do you know you are DONE.
After our first two children I still felt like there was another soul waiting to join our family.
Now that we have three, I don't feel like there is another soul waiting. Also, physically and financially there would be such a struggle if we had another. I feel like my physical well being needs to be preserved to be fair to my first three. DH agrees 100%. So, we are done and we both feel complete.

I say that we are done but I'm actually open to another. DH not so much. I'd wait til they were at least 3. But ask me if I'm done at the terrible 2s and see if that changes.

Spin off to DONE: How do you know you are DONE.
I am done.
I am 37. I hate being pregnant. I feel like I am spread two thin with two DS. It would be a financial strain and time strain to add a third at this point.
I do get sad that I won't have another baby but, am looking forward to a point where both of my boys will actually play together - they do now somewhat but, not organized (being 3 and 10 mos).

Re: Spin off to DONE: How do you know you are DONE.
I just had my first and no matter what anyone says, I know I am done, however I do realize that dramativ situatyions and circumstances can change in life making decisions that were final before not final anymore. But if nothing absolutely insane happens, I am done.
first- I was extremely sick for 5-6 months of my pregnancy both physically and also mentally caused by pregnancy. the remainder of my pregnancy was not good either.
second- financially, we are stretched thin with one child so another is not financially doable.
third- i always said i wasnt sure if i wanted more than 1, even before becoming pregnant and so did dh.
fourth- we have no help whatsoever which is close by to us at all and the help that is available further away is not a whole lot.
fifth- my dh is at the age where he doesnt want anymore children because he feels like he wouldnt want to be too old while they were kids and growing up.
sixth- i feel content and very happy with my one lil dumplin
eta: although it should go without saying that i love having my ds, i loved my life before as well just with dh and i so not having a second will hopefully make it a tad easier for us to still have a certain amount of time just the two of us and also have a little more time in our later years after our one son becomes an adult - just a personal choice and what is right for us

This is exactly how i feel, except im currently pregnant with our third. we always said 3 or 4. after 2, there were some physical and financial reasons to consider stopping. but i also felt like there was one more soul meant to be a part of our family. i adore my 2 kids and they make me so so so happy, but i never felt complete. i felt like a still had a child out there that was meant to be mine. even though she's still on the way, i do feel she completes me and our family. a fourth would be hard financially, and i am getting older. i dont feel so adamant like no way, never, can't handle a fourth. i just feel complete and at peace with 3.

We have 2 miracle babies that truly have been miracles & blessings. As much as I love being pregnant, I just could not go through another pregnancy with worries. Plus we are out if bedrooms & 2 will allow us to live comfortable without stretching it.

Re: Spin off to DONE: How do you know you are DONE.
At 2 I was unsure...I went back and forth. Had they not been twins I would have probably been done. Since they were twins, I was sad I only got to go through things once. Only one baby stage, only pregnant once.
That being said...we never decided on when/if we would try for a 3rd. Surprise one night of fun and I got pregnant with my 3rd. I felt like it was meant to be.
I now know I am done. Financially, time wise and space wise we couldn't have anymore.

Re: Spin off to DONE: How do you know you are DONE.
I go back and forth all the time. I have two DS and they are just now getting to be easier (they are almost 4 and 2). They play together and are into the same stuff...
I work FT, have a new boss and just can't imagine taking time out of my career for another maternity leave. I am finally getting my old body back after two back to back pregnancies.
There is a part of me that will always long for a DD. I am slowly coming to terms with the fact that this may never happen for me. It is still hard, and I don't think I will ever be totally over it, but I am trying to move on and be happy with the family I do have.

This is us 100%. I would have been fine without kids. Now that I have my DD I can't imagine life without her But if we had remained childless for whatever reason I would have not felt incomplete either. What I do know is, I can't imagine life with more than her-she completes us- so I know I am done.
