I think many of us should be thanking our lucky stars that our families came BEFORE immigration laws were enacted. .
How easy it is for me, third generation on mama's side, 2nd on papa's to talk about who BELONGS here.....
I wonder what all of our ancestors would have done under todays rules and reg's.
No way of saying for sure.
The judgement bothers me.

ETA: The point behind my initial statement of ESL being ridiculous was not meant to say the program was ridiculous...but the rate at which the program is growing is ridiculous because it shows our immigration population is growing tremendously. We are letting too many new people into this country and IMO cant handle anymore.
I am not against immigration...all of my ancestors were immigrants. All of your ancestors were as well. That's obviously how we all got here.
But we need to focus on the people that are in this country right now and deal with the problems we have. We have children currently legally living in the US that dont have books to read, food on their table, health care and the list goes on. Look at what happened with Katrina??? We couldnt even take care of our own people living in this country...many who died because we couldnt respond quick enough. Yet, we keep letting more people into the country. Our systems are bursting at the seams. I think we need to "close our doors" so to speak until we get our country out of the mess it's in and take care of the people who are here first. People come here hoping for a better life for their families, meanwhile the families here are losing their jobs, homes and the clothes on their backs.
I just saw that you edited and couldnt agree more

Re: Speaking of racial profiling...
Immigration is a FEDERAL law...therefore the FED gov't should deal with enforcing this, not leaving it up to the local cops in Arizona--what a horrible idea! This will undoubtedly lead to racial profiling and since its been brought up, other states (in the south) have just considered it...NOT good. I would not want this to set a precedent for other states. Hopefully the Obama admin will poo poo it.

Re: Speaking of racial profiling...
I know this is an apples and oranges comparision- but I think about this and I think about the recent education bill passed in Florida (which was vetoed by the governor, fortunately) and I feel like we've become a country of quick fixes. There are many issues with immigration and education (and other things) and they are very complex, and they involve human beings. And yet lawmakers want to go for what seems to be quick and easy instead of thinking about what will be good for all involved parties.
