Someone tried to kidnap my niece from school today ** update on Monday **
Someone showed up at her classroom (she is 8) and tried to leave the school with her. Now she knows she should never go ANYWHERE with someone she doesn't know (even if they say Mommy & Daddy asked me to get you or Mommy & Daddy were hurt). My family is very big on teaching the kids this.
My brother was picking up his other daughter from her classroom on his way to get her. The woman said to the teacher "I am here to pick her up, her parents asked me to". She never used my nieces name.
THANKFULLY her teacher said "Well - her parents did not send a note so you'll have to go to the office". The woman walked away and my niece told her teacher that she did not know the woman.
When my brother got home my SIL called the police to get a descrription of this woman from the teacher and her assistant and will be contacting the Parents Association so a letter goes out to every other parent in that school. I'm annoyed the school did not think to do this on their own.
My SIL sounded so scared = I am so glad we ALL remind the kids about stranger. I won't even try to imagine this having a different ending
** Update on Monday **
This was an outdoor dismissal that the school does during the nice weather - which is why there was no security desk to go through.
What still makes me nervous is that this woman knew to say "Daddy" sent me to get you vs. saying Mommy.
Detectives came to the house to speak to my niece Friday night and they had her come to the police station Saturday to look through pictures - she did not recognize the woman in any book though. The police will make sure that all area schools are notified tomorrow and I had suggested that the news departments be notified too but I don't think anyone did that.
Yesterday when they picked her up from Sunday school she told my SIL - "Don't worry Mommy, nobody tried to take me today".
We had a family party to go to yesterday and she was completely fine and back to her happy self again.
You just never know where a sicko will pop up from and I hope they get this woman before she really is succesful in walking away with someones child.

HOLY SH!T!!!!! how did that happen?? wow thank god the teacher didnt let her... this is such a fear of mine... my brother was almost kidnapped when he was a kid, the fear is what made me almost decide not to have children.

WAIT....they knew your neices name? OMG!!!!!!!!! Thats too close for comfort. I would be sick right now if I was your SIL and brother....
They must have cameras in the school (hopefully), no? Maybe they have a pics of this woman... Glad shes okay!

I'm glad the teacher followed district policy.
Is it district policy to then call the police? I am quite pizzed that the school nor the teacher thought to do this.

I'm quite surprised that she would even make it past the office. Our schools in our district only have one set of unlocked doors and there is someone that sits at the doors and takes the licenses of the guests and you also have to sign in at the office. Very scary! I think the school needs to step up their safety standards.

That school better get a door monitor soon. In most schools these days, there are door monitors that check visitors in by checking their IDs and filling out a form with thier name. In this day and age, every school should have one.
I'm so glad your niece is safe.

I just spoke to my SIL. She called the local precinct and they are sending an officer to speak with my niece. They were very upset that the school did not contact them and they will take care of speaking to the principal and teachers. They were not happy that 3 days will now pass before they can speak to the teacher for a description
