This is terrible. I remember Maximus's story. Yeah he was weeping cause he was going to jail, not because he was sorry.
This bothers me too:
A prosecutor said Phanord's 2-year sentence was the maximum penalty for the animal cruelty charge.
The maximum penalty for what he did is only 2 years?
Why are the animal cruelty laws so lax? He'll probably get out on good behavior in 6 months.

I remember reading the story when this happened and it still makes me cry. This guys is a total POS and hopefully he will get what he deserves when it is his time to die. $&%*%( A-HOLE. 2 years is certainly NOT enough punishment for what he did.

There aren't even words to describe what I hope that man gets and what he deserves ....And the article said 2 yrs max? There should be some kind of petition for him to have more repurcussions than that.

The laws are so lax because at this point, there is not enough pressure from the public to make them harsher. If you look online there are petitions and letter-writing campaigns to try and change that.
I hope someone ties him to his cell and sets his a$$ on fire.

i'm glad that he did get the max, for his crime, even though it really isn't enough and the laws need to be tougher -- but, for this case i'm just glad he did get the max b/c he could have easily gotten less time or probation - it happens all too often that poor lil pup - it's just terrible - disgusting.

People were so outraged by this horrible killing and it turned Long Island's attention to the various campaigns against cruelty to animals. That is the only positive from Maximus' death, but that helps me when I see his photos. The thought just occurred to me that NY allows longer sentences for drug crimes, even when there was no dealing involved.

2 years is not enough, but I'm glad that they gave him the maximum sentence and not let him off with a fine or probation. I'm sure that they will torture him in jail, and I hope they do!
