I don't think most of us meant we were unpopular in high school. I was smart, in speech & debate, all honors classes, etc., but I was pretty popular, too. I didn't take this thread to mean we were outcasts.

Chat Icon

I am not sure...maybe this is directed at my comments...but am not insinuating, in any way...that you or anyone else was unpopular.

I went to school in the city...we didn't have the same clubs etc that schools on the island did and above that, we really didn't associate people with their clubs/talents.

so my experience is different and I can not (and will not) make any type of commentary on something I know nothing about.

so if this clarification was for my benefit, it was unnecessary.

Re: So, who were you?

i played sports a lot, i was in chorus b/c you had to take a music and i can sing - she always tried to get me to solo but i wanted no part of that - i tried to keep to myself a lot - i had friends but i kept a limit on how many - i didn't trust a lot of people and i just didn't have the time or patience for a lot of them - people in school annoyed me lol it's so bad and i sound mean to say it but i have more patience now for people - i think that came with age - but i just couldn't tolerate them at that point. i wanted to be there as little as possible - not good - i was a "bad kid" haha.

ETA: I also knew, from a very young age, that once HS is over - people RARELY stay in touch, stay friends, see each other... in a district like mine where 99% of people went away to 4 year colleges - I just didn't see the point in putting in effort and "keeping" these friendships when people just disappear after HS. Seemed pointless.

Re: So, who were you?

I was one of 5 girls who did not have "big hair" in HS, I DID NOT listen to KTU or Z100. I loved WDRE, the angle (teen club on Friday nights), Malibu night club and was really into seeing shows in NYC and going to clubs. My favorite bands were: Nine inch nails, they might be giants, U2, The Cure, INXS, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Etc.

I loved going into Manhattan and sneaked out whenever possible to do so.

I started this at age 16, sneaking out with friends (who were 17, 18 and 19) and put my folks through he!!. I dated older guys and was not really into the whole "jock" scene. BUT if someone surfed, skateboarded or snowboarded (or all three) I was SOOOOOOOOO into them. I was a HUGE surf betty and even though I went to Division (in Levittown) I spent most of my time in Long Beach and Lido Beach. I was a sucker for tall, long blond haired, built like a greek god surfers. Haha! Once, when I was a senior my then boyfriend called the assistant principal to say he was my dad ( like in Ferris Buller Chat Icon ) we cut class and went surfing. It was AWESOME! My dad found out and I was grounded, but hey I had a amazing time.

Not sure where I fit in on this thread. Chat Icon Hahaha, same as HS! Chat Icon

Oh god...I did everything BUT the band...I wouldn't call myself a geek though Chat Icon

I was in Choir and the selective after school acappella group, the student musical, the student drama, drama club, key club, student council, french club, tennis team, honors society and dance classes...

I was an "everything geek" I guess

Re: So, who were you?

I was a total music geek....I was drum major/student conductor in Band, played 6 different instruments, I played in the orchestra, sang first soprano in Choir and I took 3 years of music theory. I was in like 5 music classes each year of high school. Funny thing is that we had so many jocks in our music program that people really did not give the music geeks any shyte (well unless they were geeks without the music bit Chat Icon)

DH was also a music geek, but not as bad as me Chat Icon

Re: So, who were you?

I was a super geek- band, choir, academic team (yes, laugh now), etc.

I was also a 12 season varsity and all county track team member and class vice president. Sort of an oxymoron I suppose.
