Re: so sad tonight
I would call a meeting with the teacher and discuss this with her asap. Also, of course, follow-up with the legal special ed suggestions. Do you know any of the other kids? What about inviting one of the kids over for a playdate? Can you call one of the moms and invite her and her child over? What about enrolling your son in some type of martial arts or sports? Maybe that would give him another place to make friends. Does he have an occupational therapist that can work on "making friends" with him. maybe role play with him. Tell him to pretend that you are a kid on the playground and teach him how to approach a kid and ask to play together.
HUGS! My nephew has autism but is much more severe. In this case it is easier for him because he goes to a special school and honestly, doesn't care about other kids all that much. He would rather be alone...very sad

Re: so sad tonight
for everyone that posted, you all gave me great ideas. it's so nice to have the support from this website. I do try to keep my son involved with martial arts and he excells in it and sports which he's not so good at(clumsy) but i fight the district everyday, i'm getting nowhere. i have decided i will move at the end of this year into a district that offers more.

Re: so sad tonight
I have a close friend whose daughter has grown up with the same problem and watched her have to struggle. She ultimately had to move to a north shore school district where there was more $$$ for special programs.

Re: so sad tonight
I'm so sorry....I agree with the other post, maybe you can find a playgroup with children in his situation. This is just a bump in the road and I will say prayers for you that things get better for your little guy very soon....

Re: so sad tonight
What is this disease? How terrible to have to see your child so hurt. I am really sorry just let him know that you love him. What about getting him involved in big bros/big sisters so he can have an outside influence besides you guys?

I am sorry that you feel you have to move. I will e-mail you the name of my district. They have an autistic program in district. But in the mean time I would tell them that if they are not in complice with his IEP that you will be notifying the State!! You should not allow them to get away with something like this! Something that your little boy clearly needs.

i know i just picture him all alone on the playground just looking at the other kids and it makes me so sad. Tonight i am just overemotional about it. it used to be that i thought he didn't notice that he didn't have friends now he says stuff so i know he knows. it breaks my heart
