So I went to the doctor...

and I mentioned to her that I haven't gotten af yet. she said my pg test came back negative (no shock) and she said she wanted to do a sonogram. I got the sonogram done and she said just from looking at the sonos that I have PCOS. It's not the end of the world of course, but she said this is probably why I haven't gotten pg yet. So I have to go for bloodwork and take it from there.
So atleast I have an answer now.

Is PCOS that popular?

I am so sorry to hear that. Chat Icon

It does seem to be getting diagnosed more frequently. I wonder what causes it.

PCOS is not that uncommon. With the right doctors you may be able to conceive successfully.

Chat Icon I have PCOS. While it can be frustrating, with the right OBGYN or RE it def is something that can treated and you can conceive successfully.

Good Luck.

Re: So I went to the doctor...

My friend was just diagnosed with this and already has one daughter. She got pregnant with her right away and now calls her the "miracle Baby". So you definately can still conceive, its just harder.Chat Icon

Re: So I went to the doctor...

Both my sister and I have PCOS. It seems to be more common these days. I am happy to say that although my first cycle trying was long and weird, I am in fact PG, so it certainly didn't stop us.

It is good that they diagnosed it and now you can move forward with the best information and plan possible.

GL! Feel free to FM with any questions.

PCOS is a very common cause of infertility. You may want to check the IF board. There are ladies over there that are dealing with PCOS and going through treatments. You will probably want to see a RE to help you get PG. GL!

I answered your other thread. But I wanted to say- there's no way your dr should've 'diagnosed' you just by looking at your ovaries.
Bloodwork should be done among other things. If I were you I'd seek out an RE-I don't know how long you've been TTC but I actually started seeing one way before we were TTC, before we were married... just to get my meds, etc... under control. Please don't hesitate to FM me if you have any questions/concerns. Hopefully I'll be able to answer them! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I agree with this about your diagnosis. I actually just had a sono done too because my cycles have been irregular since going off BCP and my GYN said from the sono it looked like my ovaries were a little poly cystic but that does not mean you have PCOS. Only bloodwork I think can confirm that....
PCOS seems to be very common and I know there is an entire website and message board dedicated for it.

That's better. They will look for certain levels (prolactin, TSH, FSH, testosterone) and will want to send you for a glucose tolerance test to check for insulin resistance. Often, PCOS goes hand-in-hand with that.

The most important thing to find out is if you're having ovulatory cycles or not.
