So I have a question regarding this Imus nonsense...
For those that are upset he was fired...are you upset because you thought what he said wasnt THAT bad? Or are you upset because its been taken too far? And if the latter, what do you think should've been done to him?

I am not upset that he was fired. His comments were totally inappropriate.
I just don't like the double standard. It's OK for some people but not others.

Re: So I have a question regarding this Imus nonsense...
Taken too far....I think a suspension and loss of his TV show would be a fitting punishment
And to fire him in the middle of his telethon where money is raised for children with cancer is deplorable...if thats what they had to do (which I feel they didn't) why not wait till after 10am tomorrow when the fundraiser was over?

Re: So I have a question regarding this Imus nonsense...
I think his comments were ridiculous and he should have been punished for them, NOT FIRED. I think its not fair to punish a white man for saying it and not all the black people who say it daily on TV, radio, in music.
Like others have said, Double standard and its awful.( Its awful on ALL ends for all who talk in such a demeaning manner)

okay, so to you this is strictly a black and white thing? you dont think it has anything to do with a man and woman thing? the "ho" comment doesnt mean anything? there are white girls on the Rutgers team too.
ETA: i'm not asking in an accusing manner...i'm just trying to understand why everyone's so up in arms.

Re: So I have a question regarding this Imus nonsense...
I definitely think that what he said was inappropriate. But he's allowed to say what he wants according to the 1st amendment. If no one wants to hear him talk, then change the station. I also don't like the fact that of all the stupid things this man says, they choose to focus this time because he actually said something offensive about A-A people. What about all the other times he's made comments dealing with other races, nationalities, ethnicities.

Re: So I have a question regarding this Imus nonsense...
REpost from the other thread:
This morning on O and A, (who support IMUS) they put together an audio montage of how the phrase in question had been repeated OVER AND OVER AND OVER by male and female broadcasters and reporters. The media couldn't say it or replay the broadcast of Imus saying it enough. Frankly, I think the media is perpetuating it to the point of insanity. If you don't like what he said, stop repeating it on the radio, on TV or in the newspapers. If what he did was irresponsible (which it most certainly was), then stop broadcasting this horrific insult to the black and female community. They are no better than the original offender.
(And as always, I still think it is lame that he was fired)

I was never an Imus fan, but I was always a huge Howard Stern fan. When he was on regular radio- he said waaaaayyyyy worse stuff than what Imus said. He was never fired or was on the news...I don't get it..

Re: So I have a question regarding this Imus nonsense...
I am not an Imus fan. I don't particularly care for him and have never listened to his show. I think what he said was totally out of line and inappropriate. However, that being said, this has gotten completely out of control. To fire him and cave in to this pressure was absurd. Suspend him, fine him and fine his superiors, but, firing him was definitely the wrong way to go. When you start caving into this kind of pressure, you might as well hang out a white flag and surrender to anyone who has a problem with what you broadcast. CBS needs to grow a backbone. There are for worse things happening in this world than this.

i think its a popularity contest. howard had millions of fans who listened religiously because of the content of his shows (s ex, entertainment, comedy, etc) which of course made sponsors happy. i honestly dont even know what radio frequency Imus is on, thats how popular he is to me. howard never got fired but he definitely got tons of heat for his comments and content, thats why he's on satellite radio now. did any of howards comments ever target a specific group of people?

That's correct! Now he is on satellite radio (I am sure he was "too hot" for regular radio shows). Not that I care for him anyway. I think he is a disgusting p*g who attacks everybody (women, little people, obese people, etc..).

Howard makes fun of himself all the time. And while everyone pegs him as a "hater" he really gives little people, stutters, etc. opportunities that they would have never had. I'm not sticking up for him - just stating the facts.

IMO, while he give them an "opporutunity" to talk, he really is using them to make the show.
He has his audience, just like Imus had his.
