So, another, maybe obvious TTC question. Question is updated now :::sigh::::

I am on BC. We have not decided to TTC JUST yet, but will VERY soon.

My pill stops on Saturdat night. I get AF on wednesday about 10am.

Always.

So. If we BD BETWEEN Sun and Tues night, could I get preg even though im on the pill?

Im OBVIOUSLY ovulating at some point between sun and wed. Im not "on the pill" anymore, so to speak.

Just wondering what you all think about it, and if its possible???

Thanks ladies.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Update to question.
You can only get PG when you ovulate. THAT I know.
Well, I thought ovulation was when the egg was realeased from the ovary, goes down the tube then into your uterus.
Egg is fertalized = Implantation (BASICALLY)
Egg is NOT fertalized = AF.
Question: Isnt ovulation the point of release to the point of uterus????? The egg flows down looking for sperm. Cant you get PG ANYTIME the egg has been released??
Wow, im starting to think I dont know anything.......
Thanks for the input, you all have been amazing. I feel so dumb that what I THOUGHT I knew, well, I knew nothing.
Re: So, another, maybe obvious TTC question.
For a "typical" 28 day cycle, you ovulate around day 14. So if you got AF on Wed, you would have ovulated waaaaaay before Sun, Mon or Tues.
I don't really know the answer to this, but IMO I would think you wouldn't O between those days. Your cycle starts on the first day you get your period (which for you would be Wednesday)...so usually about 10 days into your cycle would be when you'd O. Now of course everybody's cycles are different and not everybody O's at the same time. Also if you're just coming off of BC your body may be irregular for that first month or so...Again everybody is different. if you really want to know when you're ovulating you can temp or use an OPK. That's the only way to really know when you're O'ing. HTH
Are you thinking that you ovulate during the time from when you stop your active pills to when you get your period? Generally, that does not happen as the pill keeps eggs from maturing and being released. The AF you get isn't because of a released unfertilazed egg.
Once completely off BC (for more than the placebo (white pill) days), you'll generally ovulate somewhere in the middle of your cycle. Using OPKs and charting temps can actually help you to pinpoint a more accurate ovulation time.
BTW- ovulation is when the egg is released from the ovary into the fallopian tube. Fertilization usually occurs in the fallopian tube. If the egg makes it to the uterus without being fertilized generally AF will occur.
When you are not on the pill, your ovaries release an egg about halfway through your cycle. So if you have a 28 day cycle you would ovulate on about day 14 of your cycle. Day 1 is the first day of AF. The egg is only viable for a short amount of time, I think 12-24 hours but I am not positive about that part. In order to get pg, the sperm have to fertilize the egg during that 12-24 hour window.
When you are on the pill, you do not ovulate. When you are on your placebo week, that induces AF but you don't ovulate at all on the pill.
So, it would be almost impossible for you to be PG now. I hope that helped and feel free to ask more questions. I never realized how much I didn't know until I started TTC!
You typically ovulate 10-14 days before AF, so no you wouldn't be ovulating btwn Saturday and Wed.
Re: So, another, maybe obvious TTC question. Question is updated now :::sigh::::
Are you on the combination pill or progesterone only pill? If you are on a combo pill, it works by preventing ovulation. Although there is a chance of ovulation if you missed a pill or if you took any medications that inhibit the pill from working correctly. The progesterone only pill changes the lining of the uterus thus preventing implantation. If ovulation did occur, it would most likely be around mid cycle because your cycle is controlled with bcps. That being said, there is a slim chance of getting pregnant during other times in your cycle due to late release or early release or if there were 2 eggs released, one might be later than the other, etc...
I recommend reading Maybeamommy's thread at the top of the page - it really helps you figure all this stuff out
I think for me, the biggest misconception i had before starting TTC'ing was that you could get pregnant anytime in your cycle.
I had no idea of the tiny window of time of when the egg is released, and the sperm must be there to fertilize it.
It's really like a 24 hour window of time you have to technically get pregnant.
amazing anyone manages to do it isn't it? Chat Icon
good luck, and the people on here are very helpful in figuring all this stuff out.
SO now it makes a LOT of sense. I had NO idea the egg was only viable for about 24 hrs.
And thank you to you all. I DID ready maybeamommys post, but maybe I just missed something in there.
Its the 24 hr thing that I get now. THAT was the missing piece.
But yeah. How the HELL does anyone get PG with ony a 24 hr window.
:::sigh::::
You all are really wonderful and I thank you for all this good information!
