Snacks/Food Pre-Prom
Not sure if anyone has done this or remembers their own pre-proms but what do you serve kids and parents when you are the host house of pictures?
Thanks!!!

Re: Snacks/Food Pre-Prom
If I remember correctly, I think my mom had a couple of sandwich platters, chips, dips, etc. Nothing major because we were just headed to prom to go eat anyway. LOL.

Yeah I am just looking for something light for the kids and parents. Nothing that will break the bank and depending on the amount of kids, I could have a lot of people.

Same here- for my prom I think they had a hero and some chips, nothing crazy. For others, there was nothing.

I would get Costco wrap platters, chips and soda. The adults might eat but the kids will be too busy/nervous to eat.

Yeah I figured the boys might eat and the parents but not the girls as they don't want to mess up their dresses or their makeup lol.

Re: Snacks/Food Pre-Prom
My mom did grapes, some cubes of cheese, m&ms.... things like that, that were small and didn't make a mess that you could just pop in your mouth and eat easy. I find chips and sandwiches and to be very messy and wouldn't recommend those. For the other parents you could have that stuff but I don't think the girls in dresses are going to go for that.

Thanks.
Do parents even stay that long to eat? I don't even know these people and I think I would just go and take pictures and leave, personally if I didn't know them.

In my case no, the parents didn't eat. But from other posts, it seemed like people expected that and served more food? For us, parents came, took pictures left. some kids nibbled on the food but basically we just ate it as leftovers at like 1 am when we came back home and were still hungry because we didn't eat all night lol.

They have the limo until 4am so I really hope they all don't come back to my house at that time

Re: Snacks/Food Pre-Prom
This was me last year... 22 kids & 120 additional people. Which is not a lot since my son came from a senior class of 700. These kids invited parents, siblings, friends, grandparents..you name it. We even had 3 old ladies that were just passing by & crashed. Mind you I'm in Queens with a whopping 41x100 property. But these kids have been together since grade school & I knew all the families. They came at 4pm & left at 6:30. We had a DJ & lots of food since it was a kick off party.
From Uncle Giuseppe's: 3- 4 foot hero's chicken & pesto pasta salad mini vegi & Italian bites on focaccia bread 2 large fruit platters Anti-pasta plater
A Huge Sushi platter
From Costco: those frozen assorted little apps Shrimp cocktail (got it day of & kept it on ice for fear of spoiling) wraps chips & dips
All kinds of desserts, mini napoleon, eclairs, cream puffs, rainbow cookies, chocolate covered strawberries
Drinks: mini water bottles, soda's, wine, champagne, lots of alcohol (for us, not the kids! half of the adults stayed all night) A huge hit was one of those big drink decanters filled with lemon & lime slices, water & ice. Very refreshing since it was hot.
People were very generous, brought all kinds of things..one of the other moms even made a candy bar.
& THERE WAS NOT A SINGLE THING LEFT!!!! Because they all came back at 4am & were starving!
Good Luck, it was lots of fun.
Edited to add.. you're right, the girls barely ate THEN but at 4am they made up for it.

Re: Snacks/Food Pre-Prom
My school hosts the pre-prom for the students - so the students come to school before prom and walk a "red carpet". It is a wonderful event. Anyways, all that is served at that event are appetizers (pizza bites, mozz sticks, things like that :)

I know Manhasset HS does this.. its a Blessing. Pre-prom & pics at the school, everyone is invited & then they have luxury bus transportation to/from The Garden City Hotel... not too shabby.

I don't think you need to put food out. We didn't, plus, they're going to eat at the catering hall
I don't understand why people put food out.

I guess that is the thing to do now as I have heard when you host, you provide food. The kids probably don't get a chance to eat all day while getting ready so it is a snack before the prom.

We did, way back when! Lol, my mom got a bunch of frozen apps, cheeses and crackers, pepperoni, olives and chips and dip. Water bottles, soda, coffee and pastries. People really did hang out!

Whenever you host anything - you serve food and drink. Always. Whether you're hosting one person or a bunch. Some finger foods and drinks should be provided.

A lot of parents didn't even come inside for ours. We did have food and drinks, but pictures were taken outside so some parents took pictures outside and then left.

is it really considered 'hosting' when a bunch of people are standing around outside a house taking pictures of kids and a car for half an hour?
i mean, that's really what we're talking about here right?
sure, have some drinks for people if you want, but i can't imagine going all out

Actually yes they consider the parents with the home they are taking pictures at hosting, or do I have been told that.

Yes they often get together for an hour or so before they go to prom, and if invited, parents/families can stay. I just asked my cousin because I remember she hosted her son's and the pics were in the backyard around the pool etc. So pretty. She said she served alcohol after the kids left and the adults really had a blast lol
