Our garbage in the kitchen always STINKS!!! It makes our entire home smell so bad the minute we open it to throw something out. I cant stand it anymore. I feel like people come over and say, "god their house reeks"
Im always lighting candles.

Re: Smelly garbage (please help!!)
did something leak in it? Possibly raw meat juices or something? Have you cleaned the entire thing out??
We have an open garbage under the sink and it never stinks...unless we throw something like raw meat packaging in it and leave it there all day long

We constantly wash it out!!
I agree that for some reason, open garbage pails smell less.

Re: Smelly garbage (please help!!)
We use Lysol on the inside before putting a new bag in. And I always make sure I spray the inside of the cover in case something icky touched it. Does it have a liner that comes out? Ours does and I also spray it with lysol....

Re: Smelly garbage (please help!!)
or have you tried not using it, leaving it open and airing it out a few days after you clean it? Maybe just the plastic inside absorbed something smelly and needs some air!

Re: Smelly garbage (please help!!)
We have the same problem. Once we take out the trash, give the can a good scrubbing and spray lysol usually the smell is gone. We've also been know to leave it outside to air out!
Glad makes these odor shield trash bags. I just put one in last night so hopefully that will help.

I have a similar garbage can and I clean it out with Lysol pretty often and so far it doesn't smell.

Re: Smelly garbage (please help!!)
Is it possible something got in between the inside liner & the metal outside part? Maybe sprinkle baking soda on the bottom after you clean it will help. Or maybe just replace it.

Re: Smelly garbage (please help!!)
I used to have this problem. I gave up and threw it out and bought a small one for under the sink. Now I don't smell anything. It gets emptied very frequently because it doesn't hold much, that's the only annoying part, but I know it's clean

Re: Smelly garbage (please help!!)
Are you throwing raw meet or fish or even the wrappers in it? Leftover food, eggs...all create bad odors. I throw food items I know will smell out in a small shopping bag immediately...just don't want it rotting in my kitchen which is about 3 square feet!

Re: Smelly garbage (please help!!)
I almost always spray lysol in the empty trash can after I take out the garbage. especially in the summer! you really have to in order to avoid the smell
eta: and in the summer, you should really take out the trash everyday, or at LEAST every other day

Re: Smelly garbage (please help!!)
I have the same pail and in the beginning there was a funky smell. I think it's the plastic. I hose the bucket out with bleach and warm water and let it air dry outside. Try spraying the inside too that might help.

Re: Smelly garbage (please help!!)
Silly tip, but helpful. Buy smaller bags so that you are forced to empty the can more often. I find I push more and more in, because it can fit. Then it will sit for a day or two.
ETA And how about a room deodorizer on the lid?

Re: Smelly garbage (please help!!)
We use Clorox or Lysol wipes to clean it and then spay a disinfectant in it. Also, try using the scented garbage bags...we use them and NEVER have a problem.

this is what we do too and don't usually have a problem. Anything like meat or rotting vegitables or eggs - etc, we just put in a small grocery bag and take right outside.
