similac advance EARLY SHIELD?

I saw this in Costco yesterday but didn't buy it because I wasn't sure if it was the same as similac advance. I just checked their website and it is listed as a different type, but I really don't see what the difference is. Does anyone know? If it's pretty much the same I'll be kicking myself for not buying it at costco yesterday!

I think it is the same basic Advance formula with some added immune boosting ingredients. We tried this over last weekend while we were in LI and DS spit up at least an ounce every bottle of it we gave him.

We went back to our normal simple Advance

Re: similac advance EARLY SHIELD?

This is what I found on the Similac website:

EarlyShield -
Closer than ever to breast milk

Similac Advance EarlyShield is the first and only infant formula that has a unique blend of prebiotics, nucleotides and antioxidants — nutrients naturally found in breast milk. Plus, it has DHA and ARA, ingredients shown to help your baby's brain and eyes develop.

Similac Advance EarlyShield is the first and only DHA/ARA formula that has the EarlyShield blend

Because about 70% of the immune system is found in the digestive tract, developing a strong immune system from birth begins with creating a healthy digestive system. Your baby's gut relies on millions of "good bacteria" to support immune development. Special carbohydrates (prebiotics) found in breast milk and Similac Advance EarlyShield help stimulate the growth of these beneficial bacteria which helps support your baby's developing immune system.

Similac Advance -

A Great Place to Begin!

Similac Advance baby formula is an excellent choice, whether you plan to formula feed or supplement your breast milk. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends an iron-fortified baby formula as the only acceptable alternative to breast milk during the first year.

Why you can trust Similac Advance. Provides over 50% greater calcium absorption than Enfamil®* for strong bones. Plus, it has DHA and ARA, ingredients shown to help baby's brain and eyes develop.

It looks to me like the reason for the early shield is b/c it's more similar to the breastmilk.... I don't know if babies are having a different reaction to it over the Advance though.

Yes that's the only difference and it has probiotics (sp?) which yogurt has and will cause looser stools. We switched to it. My son was having constipation issues but once we switched to the Early Shield he's been regular.

Ooops! I thought they were the exact same thing and the early shield was just the "new and improved" label or something Chat Icon I am using a free sample of it now after him being on the regular Similac Advance for a few days. I hope I don't mess him up too much!

Re: similac advance EARLY SHIELD?

Hi Ladies!

(New-ish to this board, but a veteran of the Preggo board. DD was born on 8/20. I've been absent here due to multiple hospitalizations for postpartum pre-eclampsia.)

I had to, sadly, stop Bf-ing due to medication for my postpartum pre-eclampsia. We, too, had been using Similac Advance, and also saw the Similac Advance Early Shield at Costco, and picked it up thinking it was just a 'new-and-improved' formula.

Well, DD hates it! Anyone else have this reaction? My happy little girl is utterly miserable! Also, does anyone know if Costco takes back unopened cases of formula? We bought a lot of this nonsense!

TIA!

I will tell you that St Catherines just switched their whole nursery over to Early Shield a month ago. My pediatrician said she has never seen so much spitup coming out of babies ever. She doesn't like the new formulation at all and advised me to switch as soon as I got home. I thought that was interesting....

Re: similac advance EARLY SHIELD?

Thanks! That is really helpful to know. I had really doubted whether or not it was the Early Shield, because it was meant to be a 'better' formula!

Ditto! We already finished the costco sized one, but the last one we bought was the normal one - DD didn't have a reaction or anything that I can recallChat Icon

hmmm, we were switching back and forth between both, but DS had such gas and constipation issues, we had to switch to goodstart. now I"m wondering if this is why Chat Icon I didn't think there was much of a difference
