Shower Vent - selfish vent

yesterday was my sprinkle, everything was beautiful, food was great, my sister was a great hostess, her backyard looked adorable.

I've been watching my registry like a hawk and have been kind of nervous since a lot of stuff hadn't been going off.

Well, my worst nightmares came true yesterday, and more then half the guests decided they would buy boy and girl outfits rather then buy off my registry.

I got 8 snowsuits!!!!!!!!! I didn't register for 1, nevermind 8! Literally the same carters outfits over and over again. Not even "matching outfits" just one outfit in pink one in blue. Stuff from Macys that I have no use for with no gift receipts for anything!

I feel like I'm being such a b*tch, but its such a pain in the butt, especially with the return policy at babies r us, some of the stuff i don't even know where it came from.

thanks for letting me vent.

i am with you my shower is today and i can wait to see if i feel the same way. I also watched my registry like a hawk and i must say a ton of stuff is off it but not as much considering there is 70 people coming. it makes me think i am going to get a lot of random gifts that i dont need. i too hate to sound ungrateful but its so annoying. when i get an invite i always shop off the registry so pls do it for me. i will let u know tonight how it went. All of the showers I have been to, there always seems to be a lot of clothes. So with that said, I am expecting it. Especially with my shower in Texas knowing that I cannot travel back with large gifts.

ugh Chat Icon

that is frustrating. I HOPE you can take a lot of that stuff back.... Chat Icon as far BRU is concerned, they took back virtually NONE of that stuff from me.... even the items exclusively made for BRU Chat Icon (Reason I say having a registry with them is like dealing with the baby mafia Chat Icon )

If it's macy's at least you'll get a gift card... but they don't have much there other than rather pricy layette Chat Icon I have yet to spend my $50 card from march Chat Icon

I was lucky, most of my registered stuff was purchased.... but then again, I also received a lot of extras... most of the extras were useful, but some were not. I think some of it I will end up passing onto pregnant friends if they want it.

Re: Shower Vent - selfish vent

The last shower I went to scared me. It was my friend's 1st and while she did get a lot of stuff from the registry, she got TONS of clothes--fancy stuff too--like little dresses with tulle underneath and lacy collars--all NB or 0-3 months. I know she was Chat Icon . People mean well and can't resist cute baby clothes.

Re: Shower Vent - selfish vent

I'm planning already to donate a lot of stuff I probably will get to charity.

I specifically put on my registries though that DH and I actually PREFER gift cards. I know that's kind of ballsy, but with my bridal shower, I already got a ton of stuff that is still sitting in boxes in the basement and garage.........I am sure it will be similar at the baby shower.

At least I can use giftcards towards diapers and formula and REAL NEEDS!

Re: Shower Vent - selfish vent

I know exactly where your coming from the same thing happened at my shower last time and I needed alot since the stuff for my DS was hand me downs and I no longer had them.. I got nothing off my registry for her and I got things like a kids rocking chair, and decorative things with her name when I couldnt use most of it till about now when shes 2. So needless to say before I gave birth we went major shopping And its not like I could return anything I got.. Good luck hope you can return some of the stuff you got for money or even store credit to get things you really need.

Re: Shower Vent - selfish vent

This is one of the BIG reasons we are keeping the sex/name etc to ourselves. When I go to showers where the sex is known it is always CLOTHES CLOTHES CLOTHES. While there is still a lot when the sex isnt known, I find that people get frustrated with trying to find "gender nuetral" and buy more items.

I hope you can try and return at least some of it.

So sorry! That happened to all my friends that knew what they were having. People get excited to buy gender specific clothes, I guess.

ITA! The same thing happened to me at my shower. Luckily I got lots of gift cards and cash so I was able to buy what I needed as well. yes and BRU will not take anything back without a receipt or if it wasn't on your registry. However someone did tell me that BRU will take back clothing for a credit so that may work for you....

they won't do that anymore. it has to have a receipt or have been on your registry. you can't even exchange the size for a different one

Re: Shower Vent - selfish vent

I hope this doesn't happen to me either. People know the sex and it's a concern of mine, so I will expect that people will buy clothes and whatever I get I get. My family is usually pretty good about buying off the registry but only time will tell.

I certainly don't blame you at all for being disappointed!!!! I don't understand how people don't realize if they are going to buy you something, why not buy something you truly NEED?Chat Icon

OMG - I am so sorry...

DH and I are finding out in 2 weeks, and I think we are going to keep the baby's gender to ourselves for that reason.

The problem is, he already told some of his family that we are going to find out, so now they all want to know ASAP! Chat Icon

Re: Shower Vent - selfish vent

that does stink.. but i guess that can kind of be expected when it comes to a sprinkle.
when it's the 2 or 3 rd child, i think people think you already have tons of stuff so they just sprinkle you with clothes and little gifts..

8 snowsuits is quite annoying! i hope you can return some of the stuff...

We already had people complaining to my MIL about how are they supposed to but clothes for us not knowing the gender? HELLO- Buy off the freakin registry!!!!!

I always buy off the registry and if I see something else I just love then thats extra! I do not understand why people cant just stick to the registry!!!

Re: Shower Vent - selfish vent

I'm a huge last minute girl so I usually do not end up buying off the registry for anyone. I DO on the other hand always get a giftcard though to a store like Target or somewhere where I know it will come in handy. DH feels this is "unoriginal" but I've gotten lots of positive feedback from moms-to-be about this.

I guess too since I became pregnant, I've become a lot more concious of what to buy and what to not buy for those who are expecting. I did go to one baby shower right before I found out, or even had thoughts of being preggers, and got her a bunch of "cute clothes" for her Chat Icon . Oopsie!!!

That's so frustrating! To get items you don't need and not even get gift receipts for them too?

I wonder what some people are thinking when they do that... are they trying to hide how much they're spending on the shower gift?

I always get people things on their registry, that's the whole reason why ppl make the effort to register...

i have to admit i am one of those non-registry buying people because i just don't dig the concept in general. having said that, i either suck it up and get something from a registry, or if i don't like what's left i buy something practical. i am a no frills type of person, so no cutesy stuff would be gifted.

but i have to say...8 SNOWSUITS W-T-F! Chat Icon

See I am not usually a registry shopper for babies either, but I dont do a ton of clothes. I am a BIG fan of doing a basket of books with toys and a blanket or one outfit or something thrown in. Usually people LOVE this cause it is not a common gift and is useful. I also wind up always spending like 100 bucks on it, where I might spend less if I just got a bouncer or something off the registry.

Re: Shower Vent - selfish vent

That sucks. Chat Icon I totally understand wanting to buy cute baby clothes, but I'd personally buy an outfit and a registry item. Plus, I'd always include a gift receipt. I'm sorry you got so many of the same thing.

Re: Shower Vent - selfish vent

I have to admit this post scares me a bit. We don't have anything, and if we get only clothes we can't return we are in big trouble. I am having a very small shower too, so I am hoping people buy off the registry, because we do need those things.

OK...THIS IS BRILLIANT!!!! I wish I would have thought of this. I will say that I was pretty fortunate at my shower, but I did get more clothes than she will EVER wear...and of course the only gift receipts I got were from the people who UNDERSTAND that you want things off your registry!!! Re: Shower Vent - selfish vent

I understand you're venting...and I'm sorry you got 8 snowsuits...but maybe since it's a sprinkle and obviously second time around, people wanted to just get clothes.

We never have sprinkles in my family, no one has had one...its not something we do. If I were to have a second, I'm sure i'd receive clothing too and that is fine by me.

I think everyone getting together and celebrating the new life you're having is wonderful...regardless of what you got or didn't get. I know your post doesn't intend to come off in a bad light but there are so many bigger things in life IMO.

Re: Shower Vent - selfish vent

Chat Icon I will NEVER ever understand why people have such an aversion to registries !!! - You're spending the money on a GIFT - IMO the BEST thing in the world is knowing EXACTLY what the person you're buying the gift for needs/likes/wants -

But then again, IMO a "GIFT" should be something you think the person would like, not something YOU like as the buyer ...........

BRU retrun policy is absolutely insane !! -
