Shape of C-section babies heads

After telling a friend that I may need to have a c-section she right away exclaimed "Oh C-section babies have the best shaped heads!" I mean it makes sense that the baby does not need to exit the birth canal so it may play some role but I was just wondering if there is any truth in that. I mean I see the most perfectly shaped heads on any vaginal birth baby I've seen. Just wanted to know if this theory held any water whatesoever.

Re: Shape of C-section babies heads

i've heard this as well and do think there is some truth to it since the baby doesn'tgo through the birth canal. i of course think it's possible to have a vaginal birth and have a round head, but odds are probably better with a c/s.

Re: Shape of C-section babies heads

I think that there is a lot of truth to this statement. I mean the baby's head is soft so it can fit through the birth canal and if you have a long labor or the child is stuck in a certain position for a while, the head will go into that shape. I have heard many stories of children who have head or neck problems b/c of being stuck so I think there is some truth to the c/s baby having a nice head shape when the mom did not labor a long time and the baby was not stuck in the birth canal.

Re: Shape of C-section babies heads

Depends on when the C/S was done. Mine was an emergency C/S and my son was already ion the birth canal. He had a very coned shaped head, every one assumed he was a vaginal delivery b/c of that.

Re: Shape of C-section babies heads

There is some truth to that but it also depends on the size of your baby and how wide yor canal is. My DD was small so she came out with a perfectly shaped head.

Re: Shape of C-section babies heads

Definately true - my mom was in labor with my brother for 30+ hours (eventually ending in a C-section - but still...) and I always make fun of his first picture b/c his head was so misshapen he looked like an alien whereas mine, as a planned C-section was perfect. Chat Icon

Agreed!
I am the only one in DHs family to ahve a c/s and everyone kept commenting now how perfect DS looked just minutes after his birth. His head was perfectly round and no bruising or redness etc (not all v-babies have this but some do)

Also due to this andthat DS was nearly 10lbs at birth everyone kept saying he looked like a 2 month old.

Re: Shape of C-section babies heads

My DS had a slight 'crown' as they called it from being so low down but was a c/s baby so he does actually have a really nice shaped head Chat Icon The 'crown' was gone by the next morning.

c-section babies tend to be "prettier" at first that vaginally born babies. There is a lot of trauma coming down that birth canal! Cone heads and bruising may be present.

I think 95% of the c-section babies I have seen look "perfect" when they come out.

I find that some canal babies have nice heads right away. The cone head babies do not stay that way, obviously. My baby had a nice C-section head but he was so tiny that he might not have had a tight squeeze.

From the babies I've seen, if you don't go into labor & have a csection, there is no cone shaped head. If you labor for hours & wind up with an emergency c, you have the cone shaped head.

I was in labor for 39 hours, pushed for 4 hours and then had a c-section. My DD had a perfectly round head from the minute she was born. Chat Icon

Re: Shape of C-section babies heads

It is true. My DD was a section & her head was pretty round from birth. DS was vaginal & he had a cone head & a squished face. His head rounded out & his face popped within 24 hours though.

It's true! My Brother was CS, but only after hours & hours of labor, which made him a little cone shaped. I on the other hand was just a CS with a perfectly round head. Chat Icon

my vaginal birth baby had the HUGEST cone head you've ever seen. Chat Icon after about 2 days it looked normal, but when he was first born it was practically pointy.

i guess that's what happens when you push for 5 hours.Chat Icon

I agree with this statement. One of first comments I heard about DS was how nice his head was!
