Yeah, no time for that. It's "pretty" and all, but I can't see these people continuing that level of nonsense throughout the school year.
I will say if DS gets a sandwich (which is once a wk) I do cut them into a dinosaur, but there's no effort or art skill in pressing this plastic thing into a sandwich. Chat Icon

Even those plastic shape cutters are too much for me. I just envision it not being clean one day and dd getting upset so I just avoid it. .

Chat Icon OMG I totally get that! We have a Cars one that I refuse to use because there are too many nooks for food to get trapped. Not to mention it actually destroys the entire sandwich.

This dino one is simple, no nooks or crannies for trapped food and it goes right in the dishwasher.

Reminds me of the day we were skyping my sister and she gave dd the idea I should cut her quesadilla up with cookie cutters. I gave in but told her she'd better hop on a plane to help with my dishes!

Re: School lunches

i'd do it if ti meant Ds would actually eat lunch!

Right now, it's a miracle if he finishes his pretzels!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

If i do shapes at home, no problem, ask him to take it to school, he refuses or just doesn't eat it.

School lunches

DS gets the option of catered lunch now that he is in kindergarten. So that saves me from having to make lunch 4 days a week.

The one day he gets lunch from home its his usual of either cream cheese on whole wheat bread or hummus cup with multi-grain tostitos.

I will admit that I use a cookie cutter to cut out the bread into either dump trucks, hearts, dinosaurs, stars, minion or holiday things like pumpkins, christmas tree etc. BUT its is SO easy and i just got cut the bread, so that I can just rinse them. I am not cutting through after the cream cheese has been spread, that requires having to wash with a sponge and soap and well, then he is getting two slices of regular shaped bread.

Wow.. I could never, I enjoy sleep to much. My son has been eating school lunch since day 1. Never gave him the chance to enjoy brought lunch. Set expectation low from the start!

Re: School lunches

I use the bento box to line the lunch box because its easy to clean and reduces plastic/foil waste. Its in no way fancy though. Just helps to divide up the food ( i.e snack/sandwich/hotdog etc) minus plastic bags or separate containers. I wish i had the time/creativity to make some of those lunches though even more I wish my kid would eat some of it. Usually out of all the things I send the only thing that gets eaten is the goldfish or the potato chips Chat Icon

School lunches

Never ever even crossss my mind to be that fancy for a school lunch... Wow.... I'm more unimpressed with myself that the thougt never came to me... Let alone that I don't do it lol
My DD gets a bagel, a turkey sandwich, or Mac and cheese in a thermos on the days she doesn't buy. Dessert is a cupcake, pretzels, fruit , cookies etc. it goes in her lunch box. The end.

Hate to annoy everyone, but I will def. be making my daughter lunches like that! I love it. Chat Icon

Lol I'm with you! My daughters preschool doesn't provide lunch so this is the first time in packing her lunch and I would love to do this stuff. But I also enjoy being creative and it's fun for me as well as fun for her to be Surprised

She's three so she appreciates heart shaped apple slices or cutesy things like that. :P

School lunches

I've packed cute lunches for my DD, and drew really cute pics on her bento box. I don't get why it bothers people SO much. I see all the little memes and snide comments about people who do cute and crafty things for their kids. If it makes MY child smile and if I enjoy doing it, who cares what another mom thinks? I don't. I think the moms that make fun of this have a little twinge of jealously or too much time on THEIR hands to actually complain about what other people are doing ;)

My kids won't eat sandwiches or anything cold. They are super picky and will come home with an entire lunch not eaten if they don't like it. I have to cook for them every morning . Bento box would be so much better for me Chat Icon

I think it's great that you do it and it's awesome for your child. We all love to make our kids smile. For me it's the fear that my kid is going to come home one day and ask me to do it for her! Of course I know that's my problem and not yours but I do dread that day lol.
