School lunches
Got a photo of all kids eating lunch in school yesterday (our school just transitioned to full day for K after 2-3 weeks half day).
My kid ate a cold cut (no nut policy) sandwich on toast: we put it in a brown bag w his name written in marker. Seriously: all the kids had bento boxes with little cut snippets of stuff. They had teeny sandwich pieces & little bitty desserts!
I don't see anyone at my workplace do it for themselves!!! I cracked up!
Is it just me & DH? Are we living in the 80s????
We intend on doing school lunch soon (next week)... But it is stunning!

Re: School lunches
I definitely do not have time for that! My DS is not old enough yet to know the difference at this point. When he goes to school, he'll pick out a lunch box and then get a regular sandwich.

School lunches
I work at a preschool and a lot of the moms send in the boxes for lunch. One little guy eats falafel and hummus and broccoli! I thought that was impressive

Re: School lunches
I have ZERO time and ZERO patience for that. DD gets a bagel with cream cheese or a cheese sandwich or ham and cheese sandwich, wrapped in foil and thrown in her My Little Pony lunch box every day.
She wouldn't eat half that fancy shitt anyway
And at the end of the day, do you think the kids really remember or care? To me, it's just a way for the parents to show off. Look at me, Look at me, I'm a pinterest dream!

Re: School lunches
Lol! I am not that ambitious. My kids cycle through the same things- either crackers/rice cake and ham or pepperoni, organic yogurt, leftovers from dinner the night before in thermos, or peanut butter/Nutella sandwich. They always get a drink, fresh fruit, and a snack sized dessert. That's it. No fancy shmancy stuff here. No cute little cut outs.

Re: School lunches
My dd takes a turkey/cheese sandwich or a bagel with cream cheese. Once in a while I'll heat chicken nuggets in the thermos. No way would she ever eat those type of lunches and there is no way I'm making them! Who has the time?

And at the end of the day, they eat it, and then poop it out. Food is food! The turkey sandwich feeds your body in the same way regardless if it's in a normal sandwich shape or cut into a Hello Kitty head. I just think it's so frivolous, time wasting and silly

Re: School lunches
Wish I was creative enough, but my DS pretty much gets the usual... cheese sandwich, cream cheese or cream cheese and jelly. Maybe I'll go nuts and do cheese and crackers. Most of the time I forget to even cut the sandwich in half. He is so picky I'm lucky if he eats it. Usually a Gogurt too and snack.

Re: School lunches
lol. My girls both have bento boxes BUT I am not that creative. I just like not having to use plastic baggies for everything. There are 3 compartments: one gets the "main meal" (sandwich, bagel, etc) the others get "snacks" (fruit, crackers, pretzels etc.). It's easy to pack and clean. I love them!

Me too! I think it's really cute. At home, my DD loves when I cut her sandwiches into shapes and make a face out of everything on her plate. I make her pancakes into shapes too. She gets a kick out of it.

Re: School lunches
Yeah, no time for that. It's "pretty" and all, but I can't see these people continuing that level of nonsense throughout the school year. I will say if DS gets a sandwich (which is once a wk) I do cut them into a dinosaur, but there's no effort or art skill in pressing this plastic thing into a sandwich.

Even those plastic shape cutters are too much for me. I just envision it not being clean one day and dd getting upset so I just avoid it. She gets pbj cut in 4 squares in an attempt to keep it from getting all over her face and some fruit. I love berries since they don't require cutting lol.
I love to cook but i never pick recipes that go over the top just to look good. Food is all about tasting good, I don't have the patience for fancy looking stuff. No way I'd do it for a school lunch dd wrong way anyway.

OMG I totally get that! We have a Cars one that I refuse to use because there are too many nooks for food to get trapped. Not to mention it actually destroys the entire sandwich.
This dino one is simple, no nooks or crannies for trapped food and it goes right in the dishwasher.
