San Bernadino School Shooting
Two adults were found dead in a classroom and two students are in unknown condition after a shooter walked on to the North Park Elementary School campus in San Bernardino on Monday and opened fire in what the police chief characterized as a suspected murder-suicide.
Authorities responded to the elementary school, located 5378 N. H St., to a report of an active shooter just before 10:30 a.m., according to San Bernardino City Unified School District spokeswoman Maria Garcia.
The preliminary information was that a total of four victims were being treated, according to a tweet from San Bernardino Police Department Chief Jarrod Burguan.
The gunman was among those who were possibly down, according to the chief.
Two students were transported to a local hospital after the shooting, which took place in a classroom, he said.
“We have two students who have been flown by MediVac helicopter to a local trauma center,” San Bernardino City Unified School District spokeswoman Maria Garcia said. Their conditions were not immediately known.
The third victim is a a teacher, according to Garcia.
“We do not know the age of the students. We do not know the grade that the teacher taught,” she said.
Garcia told KTLA the situation is believed to be “contained.”
She added that the elementary school do not have uniformed police officers or campus security, unlike the district’s middle and high schools.
“Our middle schools have campus security and all of our high schools have uniformed police officers,” Garcia said.
Authorities have not yet said whether the two adults who were found deceased were the teacher and the shooter, or if they were additional victims.
The San Bernardino County Fire first confirmed there were multiple victims at approximately 10:45 a.m., but did not provide a count.
Students at Cal State University San Bernardino, which is not far from the elementary school, were asked to shelter in place amid the active shooter report, the college tweeted. The shelter in place order was removed around 11:40 a.m.
North Park students were being taken to Cajon High School — located at 1200 W. Hill Dr. — “for safety,” Burguan tweeted.
Parents are asked to go to the high school and have a picture ID in order to pick up their students, the School District tweeted.
“If parent are looking to reunite with their children, all kids are being transported to Cajon High School,” Garcia said.
In addition to North Park, Cajon Elementary School and Hillside Elementary School were also placed on lockdown, according to the School District. It was not immediately known how long the lockdowns would last.

I hope the kids who were involved are OK.... As much as I don't want our DC to have to live in a lock-down armed guard school, I also don't want people just walking into schools and shooting people...

Re: San Bernadino School Shooting
Welcome to another Monday in America. I get physically ill seeing the words shooting and elementary school in the same sentence. Now we have this ahole in the white house who sleeps in the same bed as the NRA. I feel awful for those children who are injured and had to witness it.

Re: San Bernadino School Shooting
This makes me sick to my stomach. I just don't understand how nothing can be done to protect our kids. I understand that people want more gun control (and so do I), it will never happen though. Especially not now with Trump in office. So when can we all agree that our schools need guards? I worry about random shooters at least a few times a week. We live in a sick world and if our government won't protect us by making stricter gun laws, why aren't other options being discussed?

Yes. The schools need to be better locked down and have MUCH MUCH better security. I say all the time- at my DD's school you have to be buzzed in, but they buzz just anyone in. You could have a gun under your shirt or in your bag. There is just a woman at a desk. No protection at all It scares me

Our school too. I have watched the secretary buzz someone in without even looking at the camera to see who it was. Very scary.

So sad. I feel for everyone involved. This is really eyeopening because no matter how many checks and balances you have with security, people can get through. The shooter was known to the school staff and they had no reason not to allow him entry. Very sad.

I'm sure we will continue to see more of this, since restrictions have been lifted off mentally ill people who want guns. Not saying that was the case here, but how could it not get worse?

So it seems to me= from what they are reporting at least that it was a murder/suicide? So I am assuming the shooter was the teacher's boyfriend/husband/ex and he came into the school to kill her and himself? But he shot 2 children in the process too?
Horrifying
And you say the shooter was known to school staff- I guess because he was this teacher's husband or boyfriend or whatever. But it makes me feel that nobody should be allowed into school during the school day. I dont' care who they are. And it's sad that we have to think that way, but I feel like schools need to become like prisons to keep the kids safe And that is even sadder.

From what I heard from a few news stations was that he signed into the office and was known by staff and by the teacher who he shot, so there was reason to not allow him in. They said the poor children were hit because of their proximity to the teacher. They don't have a motive yet.
It's very sad but also hopefully shows people that we have a false sense of security with all these schools having sign ins and security guards. There is no protecting from crazy.

Like if you want to kill yourself, go off yourself quietly somewhere. Why the hell do you have to involve innocent people and much less children?

Re: San Bernadino School Shooting
Estranged husband Cedric Anderson, 53, (top) walked into a special needs classroom and opened fire on his wife Karen Smith, 53, (pictured with Anderson) at North Park Elementary School, San Bernardino, on Monday morning (below). He then turned the gun on himself after he shot dead his wife and injured two students. It was later announced that eight-year-old Jonathan Martinez died from his injuries after he was taken to the hospital. He and another student, who is in stable condition, were standing behind Smith when the shooting happened. Anderson was allowed entry to the school after signing in at the front desk and telling them that he had something to drop off for his wife. The couple was estranged and had only been married for a few months before the separation.

Ugh, exactly. Someone lost a young child because you were pissed off at your ex-wife. It's beyond horrifying.

San Bernadino School Shooting
This is just so heartbreaking. Why the hell do you need to do this let alone at a school? Why was he allowed to walk the halls at all? You want to drop something off, drop it at the door. Teachers are finger printed and background checked for a reason. Their family members should not be allowed to enter and walk around unescorted. Sad that that needs to be the case but it's our world unfortunately. I definitely think the school dropped the ball in this situation. Just awful. I hate that I need to worry everytime I hear sirens while dd is at school a block away.

Those kids are traumatized for life. At bedtime tonight when I tucked my 2 girls in I told them if they ever feel scared and my dh or I aren't there I want them to close their eyes real tight and think of us, or sing in their heads the lullaby I still sing to them. I can't believe this is how life is today. You just never know. Sending my girl's off to school is so scary to me. I pray everyday for their safe return and I hate that we have to live in fear. This World is sick.
Our government should be ashamed and I honestly blame them and the damn NRA for all these children's deaths. There is no reason for it to be so easy to buy a gun here, no reason those who are mentally ill should have guns, no reason people can buy rounds and rounds of ammo, no reason people can by high powered automatic weapons.

Horrifying. I agree, school dropped the ball. I don't care if it's the teacher's spouse or the principal's twin. Unauthorized individuals should not be permitted to roam the building because they need to drop something off. As sad as it is, this is the horrifying reality we're living in.

I am heartbroken. Something has to be done to stop this from happening. One kid is dead, another wounded and SO many others traumatized for life. This is just way too much now. And that poor teacher. May she RIP.

My heart is so heavy with this.
I'm calling my son's school after the break about their procedure. I will be pushing very, very hard for a "No visitors" policy.

So sad. I would gladly pay more in taxes to have a full time police officer playing security guard at all schools in my district. There is better security at my office building than my schools.
