Has anyone checked out there salary at Monster.com ? Do you make what you are supposed to ? Are you close? I make less than the lowest salary level. I've confronted my boss about this. She claims its because we are on Long Island.

Re: Salaries

I do all the time. Fortunately, I make about 8K more than "most" in my area.

ETA: And it does make a different as far as where (location) you work. I used to work in CT, they paid less than in NYC, even though the firm itself paid more in comparison to other firms.

Yes. That's how I got my current salary and found out that I was highly underpaid! Chat Icon

It's pretty true since it's an average. Thankfully, I make more than the highest number. And so does my DH. We were underpaid in NY big time!

just an FYI... a lot of the info on those sites is exaggerated. Wish I saved the link… there was a story on salary.com and how they inflate salaries.

I don’t know why they would exaggerate either. my best guess is because people will talk about how much they’re worth and that they saw it on salary.com, creating a draw Chat Icon

I make more than what's listed. I wear many hats. I printed salary.com's listing of what both positions I have would make & was able to get an increase that way.

As for LI aspect, you have to put your zip in to get the salary, so I'd say the point is moot.

I used to work for a staffing firm, and we didn't "inflate" the salaries. We would put a "range" ie: 20-30K b/c that's what the firms give us.

There are usually staffing firms and direct companies posting on monster.com, so I also do not understand why they would post inaccurate (inflated) salaries.

You usually want to find a candidate that fits that range...otherwise, you will have those who are under/over qualified, wasting a lot of time and effort in the process.

Re: Salaries

I check on random editorial sites; we are a very underpaid field....and sadly I'm in line with the rest of the other wordsmiths.

Re: Salaries

LOL, this thing is funny actually:

The median expected salary for a typical Marketing Director in Garden City, NY 11530, is $145,363.

I wish! That's like 3 times my current salary.

I really think that these titles don't always accurately reflect the job you are looking at either.

I so agree. I am a Marketing Director and I work in NYC. I do not make $100k
but at the same time my salary is very decent and I am happy with it. You are correct when you say that the titles does not accurately reflect the job.

a Director of Marketing at my company would have a staff and would warrant either that salary or close to it.

I have a staff of 2 who I manage and I manage all the marketing for 9 product lines for all of Long Island, and still don't make anywhere near that.

Don't think this is true. The salaries are what it's average...a range...and it's definitely true for the jobs I've looked at. Chat Icon
