I'm a SAHM. My husband helped the first three weeks we got home from the hospital... and then that was the end of that. Chat Icon The only thing he does is diaper changes when we are out in public. I hate changing her in public restrooms so he would do that for me. I do EVERYTHING else. everything.

SAHM question

DH helps. He works pretty long hours, and the boys are usually asleep when he gets home, so the weekdays are all on me. But the weekends are complete 50/50.

I have a little baby that I am breastfeeding. As far as helping, eh, not really. He plays with the baby mostly and kisses him. He works a lot, so if I am home I just bathe him on my own, etc. my dh changes diapers when I ask, so that's good. I guess as he gets older I will expect more help .

My DH helps a little. He'll change a diaper if I ask,but he doesn't volunteer. He'll also play w/ DD if he's home so I can cook/clean/shower etc. DD is 2 and he gave her a bath for the first time this week (I'm pregnant so he's stepping up his game Chat Icon )

He does yard work, but no house work or cooking.

Re: SAHM question

My DH helps when he feels like it or wants something. He will change diapers when asked, but that is pretty much the extent of him helping. My twins are 2 and they are very attached to me, so he feels like he doesn't need to do anything for them, because I'm always doing everything.

He does the yard work and he mostly cooks but mostly everything falls on me. Dd1 is 3 and on the weekends she's his shadow but she's virtually low mainentance haha although shes very high maintenance haha. Dd2 is 5 months and I can't remember the last time he changed her.

I'm very lucky and very grateful. Dh does a lot for dd. I am generally "off of work" when he's home. It's really nice.

Re: SAHM question

DH can be good, but needs like written out instructions. Chat Icon My boys are 4 and 2 so a lot more interactive. First off I just became a SAHM last year so DH suddenly took a step back when I did. He does the baths at night if he can and is home in time. He does either read to one or both so that helps too.
Like I said though... Written out. If I ask him to take them downstairs on a Saturday and give them breakfast that's exactly what he'll do. Meaning... Sometimes forgets to give them a drink (my 4 yr old will ask sometimes), doesn't change my 2 yr olds diaper and doesn't clean up after and usually forgets to give them their vitamins. That's just it... Only breakfast. I have to say remember too... Diapers, vitamins, drinks, clean up and don't let them watch too much tv. That's his easy way out is tv. Chat Icon

Re: SAHM question

I'm a SAHM with a DH who works long hrs plus long commute. There are days he leaves prior to kids being up & home at or after bedtime. It's is basically all me & now that the boys are older (3&4) we are seeing the effects bc no matter what is going on, both boys want solely me.

Re: SAHM question

DH gets home at 5... so we do have a lot family time together. But he doesn't really do much of the "work" with DS at all. DS is 33 months. DH will play with him a little bit, talk to him, whatever.... but as far as bath, bedtime, potty training, all of that stuff- its pretty much all me. Same with when we're out together- i get DS his food set up, take him to the bathroom, all of that.
DH does do the cooking though, so I'll give him that. And he sort of does the yard work. The problem is, we have a lot of trees, and he likes it "woodsy"- so he doesn't do the yard as "clean" as I want it.
We have an arragenment though that we each get one night a week to go out. it really is nice.
So, like last night i went with my friend for a long walk and then starbucks. Tonight he is going out with some friends for a beer. So its definitely nice to know that one night a week I can get out and have a life again Chat Icon
But, overall, he gets off VERY VERY easy!

Same for me. DH is very hand on and helps with everything. He gives her baths, puts her to bed, changes diapers, plays with her, feeds her, etc...

Re: SAHM question

My DH is great with my son. He changes diapers, gets him up and dressed in the morning, gives him milk ect and plays with him. For the first year he wouldn't leave the house with him but now they go to the playground or the supermarket together or play in the yard.

I do all of the laundry, housework, cooking and maintaining of the house so I get a lot done while he is with my DS.

He calls it the divide and conquer method.

SAHM question

DH helps a lot. He's always done diapers and gotten DD ready for bed at night. I think DD was a week old before I changed her diaper! He's off for the summer right now so we trade off getting up in the morning and he'll help with breakfast or diapers and take DD outside so I can have some time to myself or to get stuff done. When he was working he helped but I was a little too controlling and it was hard for him to jump in. Now that he's had this time home with us I think it will be easier.

Re: SAHM question

My sons are 3 and 5. My need for help with them is different now.

When he gets home from work, I am mentally shot and tired from running around and playing all day. So, he plays with them, gets after them to clean up toys, etc. He gives them a bath, and we split bedtime, one each takes one to their rooms for books, cuddles, etc.

Weekends, it's 50/50. Again, not feeding and diaper changes, but playing with them, refereeing fights, getting them ready to go out, making meals, etc. I go out about 2x a month with friends, and he is all for hanging with thm so I can have time for myself. He is a very hands on Dad. When he is not working, he is with us. I do the cooking, cleaning, errands. He does yard work, all outside work. He also likes to cook on weekends.

I find my husband much more helpful now, then the baby stage. Which is one of the reasons why I am not planning on having any more babies.Chat Icon

If DH is not at work, he helps out with everything. We're always together anyway, it would be kind of ridiculous if I was doing everything while he sat there doing nothing. I love when he's home, the extra set of hands is really helpful.

Re: SAHM question

When he is home he helps. He does diapers, potty w/ our oldest, baths, feeding, helps with just about everything. I never have to really ask its just sort of the way it is. He works really long hours during the week so some night he doesn't get to see them before bed and I miss the extra help at nighttime the most!

Same here... and when we are out he's the one running around after the toddler while I sit with the baby. Probably the reason I would have more!

Re: SAHM question

He works so much that our 2 year old said "can daddy come over?"
Funny & sad at the same time.
He works a double overnight shift at least once a week.
He works a ton of overtime so he usually gets home around 2am rolls out of bed at 10am, I take a 10 second shower & he leaves for work.
We hate it but that's how I am able to stay home.
He usually wakes up with her every sat. so that's nice!
When he is home he's pretty good but I'd say he changes 1 diaper a week, a bath twice a month, bedtime or nap time routine once a month.
Other then that I do mostly everything.

This is why I'm one & doneChat Icon

Same here, with the exception of bedtime bc my DD still nurses to sleep and DS only wants me to put him to bed. Otherwise, he is very hands on and I get to take a step back on the weekends and evenings.
