Review of yesterday's breast feeding class at Stony Brook
Interesting Info about Stony Brook: There were very few babies in the nursery, even though they had a full house. The nurse said they really encourage rooming in, unless there is something wrong.
Someone asked what to bring to the hospital, and the nurse said underwear, they don't provide it. Which I found interesting since I've heard so much about the mesh underwear on here.
The new labor rooms are scheduled to open mid Sept. I'm due Oct 12th and she said I had a "good" chance of being in the new part. The benefit of the new part is it will be on the same floor as the recovery rooms. In the future, they are aiming to not even removing the babies from the room, do all the tests in the labor room, unless they have to, and then the baby go right to the recovery room with you.
Interesting info about breast feeding: She kept emphasizing how low the breast feeding rate on LI is compared to the rest of NY.
She really encourages skin to skin after birth. And to breast feed right away, not in a football hold or anything, but by laying back and letting LO lay on you and find his/her way to the breast. Google the breast crawl on you tube to see this.
Overall, it was pretty good and next week's class is childbirth. I will update again.

Thanks! I'm not delivering there, but I appreciate the best crawl advice for the first time breast feeding.
