Went to Breast Feeding Class last night

My DH and I went to the Breast Feeding Class last night at Winthrop and i have to say I was disappointed.

First they told me on the phone that husbands should come and that they include the husbands in the lecture (like things they can do to be part of the fedding experience, things to help the mom etc).

So we go to the class and their were 12 moms and only 4 (including me) had their DH with them.

They rest were alone.

They made no incorporation of the husbands in any of the class. I felt so bad I dragged my DH there with me especially when he had to leave work early to come.

I just felt like if they say it is a class for couples, then they should gear it towards couples.

i hear you, DH & I are going to one next month at NSLIU and they better aim it towards couples if we're paying a couples rate

That stinks! I let DH off the hook for the BF class I'm signed up for in June.

The DH thing aside... did you find the info helpful/useful on top of any reasearch you've done on your own?

was the class bad other than the lack of men there? i signed up for the same one in june but DH can't go because he's a cop and has a set schedule. i don't wanna waste my time or money if it's not a good class though.

I was scared of this. I think for the breast feeding we will rent a video from the library and read a book. Plus I hear there is a lactation specialist in the hospital.....

Honestly it was OK. I don't regret going. I think that if you can make it than fine but if you can't don't beat yourself up about it.

It went over how to get the baby to latch, how to tell if they are full, the different pumps there are, how to store Breastmilk.

It showed a video on positions for mom and baby.

She also spoke about what foods you can and cannot eat and what meds are safe (that wasn't too specific).

Like I said, I myself dont regret going, just having DH come along was a waste.

But if you can't go, dont worry.

Worst part of it was that during the class as she was talking about meds it dawned on me that my high risk dr wants me on aspirin thru delivery and 6 weeks post partum. Now I am not sure if the whole breastfeeding thing is out of the window.

I was sooo upset and have to look into this more.

I am going to ask both my high risk dr and my OB next appointment.
