Breast Feeding Class At Winthrop
I am going to sign up for the breast feeding class at Winthrop hospital. Has anyone taken a class there before? If so, did you feel it was helpful?
Thanks

The woman who did it had 3 kids and went on and on about how she is still breastfeeding her 5 year old. She kept preaching how it is what is natural. I went to the class to learn how to do it. . Not get preached at. I rented a dvd that was recommended on here. I also never had milk come in which was the irony of the whole situation.

If it is the one given at Destination Maternity then I took it. It was ok. It was given by one of the Winthrop nurses who is also a LC. She was great, didn't preach that BFing is mandatory. She showed a video and went over the different holds.

I totally had the same teacher... but I thought she was sweet... YES I thought she took BF OTT... but hey... it is her choice.
I did learn a lot in the class... But honestly, the LC at the hospital are there for you on EVERY shift... Take ADVANTAGE of that, they are amazing. and I had NO problems BF...
Good Luck!

Re: Breast Feeding Class At Winthrop
As a working mommy-to-be I definitely don't want someone preaching to me about how long I should be breastfeeding for....I'm going to look into Destination Maternity to see if they are still offering the classes.
Thanks for the info.

I would recommend skipping the class and just utilizing the lactation consultants on staff at the hospital when you deliver.

ITA.
I delivered there as well and they are offered anytime and VERY helpful and when you get home you can have one come to you, for a fee.

I liked the BRU one. It was general information but I am glad I went. It prepared me for not expecting to feed the baby every 3-4 hours like formula.
