Really upset..

I just got off the phone with the nurse at my office. Apparently I failed the 1 hour test pretty bad and need to go for the 3 hour. Not only that.. I am RH- and need to go to the office tomorrow to get the rhogram shot.

I just want one frekkin thing to go right. It took a year of horrible fertility durgs and a failed IVF before I even got pregnant. My AFP came back bad and I had to have an amnio which the results took abnormally long due to slow cell growth...THANKFULLY everything came back fine with the amnio, but I just cant take this stress.

The stupid woman couldnt even explain to me what the RH- stuff meant and said not to worry about possibly having GD cause I might just have a big baby...

I just dont know how much more of this I can take... sorry for the pity partyChat Icon

You CAN take it. You have been through so much, just to have a little miracle of your own. All of these little obstacles will just help you appreciate your child that much more. Hang in there!!

Re: Really upset..

Awww...I'm sorry. But try not to be too upset. I'm sure you'll pass the 3 hour test and the Rh thing is VERY common. It just means that your blood type is - and you DH's blood type is + and so your baby could possiblily be + and create antibodies in your body which might harm your next baby. The shot will take care of all of that!!

I'm RH negative too.....it's just the type of blood that you have. No big issue....I had the rhogam shot at 6 and 28 weeks. If the babies have a certain blood type at birth I will have to have it again. It's to protect us, not the babies.

I'm sorry you're upset. Chat Icon Both of those things are very common. I failed the 1 hour test (got a 154), but passed the 3 hour test. Many people who fail the 1 hour end up passing the 3 hour. Try not to worry.

Re: Really upset..

I hear ya-- I had the rhogam shot early bc of bleeding, have been sick since day 1, and have to go for more testing bc of an echogenic focus on the baby's heart. Non stop stress!

Re: Really upset..

Dont be too upset, I'm Rh- as well and both my babies were Rh+ so I got the shot 4 times. I failed the 1 hour test with my last baby, failed the 3 hour test and was on insulin. GD is pretty common as well

Re: Really upset..

I'm sorry, Jen. Hopefully the 3-hr won't be that bad.
Being Rh- just refers to your blood type. For example, I am O+ but if I was O- then I would be Rh neg. You get the rhogham shot because if the baby has a + blood type, when you are giving birth, the Rh factor in the baby's blood could cause your blood to have a rejection reaction. Its more of an issue if you were to have another Rh+ baby, but they do it as precaution now.

Re: Really upset..

I can understand how you feel. It's very frustrating when things don't go smoothly and you feel you just can't get a break.

The 3hr gtt isn't that bad. I did it and just found out today I have to do it again due to a big baby at 32+ weeks. And your RH- will only mean that you need an injection of Rhogam. But I really do understnad how stressful these things can be when it seems to never end. Chat Icon

Re: Really upset..

Chat Icon Chat Icon I have not had the glucose test yet. I guess I will go soon, but I am also rh negative and dh is positive, so I have to get the shot too. It' s just precautionary. I wouldn't worry myself over that. I did at first too, but my Dr. was so not worried and explained everything to me (FM with any questions). Also if this is your first baby, there is nothing to be concerned about with that and as long as you get the shot after the birth, the next babies are fine too.Chat Icon

Everyone's right the RH- thing is so common; and the 3 hr could go either way; but compared to what you've been through to have this little, um, beagle, all these tests and procedures will be minor in the long run. I know what you mean though, its a lot of running around, and a lot of anxiety at a time when you just want it to be 'easy'...

No advice, except maybe to let Fred give you extra cuddles tonight Chat Icon

Re: Really upset..

I'm sorry you're feeling sad Jen. I know the he!! you went through to get PG. If it makes you feel better, you've seen my DD . . . I had bad ultrascreen, opted against the AFP and went straight to amnio, got good results after flipping out waiting for them, then failed the one hour and had to take the 3 hour. I passed.

The PP had it correct when she said to hug Fred. Chat Icon

Sorry you failed the 1 hour test. That stinks.

Do you know DH's blood type? I'm RH- but so is my husband, so I didn't need the shot.
